It's about time i do some maintence on my gpse, another fluid filter change, fuel system, and plugs and wires.

There's to many types to choose from..I want to go with the OEM delcos, but don't know what kind. Which type should I go with? I have the 3.1 motor.

Also, since Im running valvoline synthetic, should i stick with my delco filter or go with another brand?

Iridium plugs are good for my motor

I can go cheap since i should seafoam the motor. That brings another question to mind then; can i use conventional oil if I already have synthetic running through it?

You can. I'd just run the cheapest stuff all the time since it's only a matter of time until you start leaking coolant into the oil.

I can't let it die tho. It's the only vehicle currently and I need it to get to work.

Edit: since i been searchings craigslist , I cant find another 3100 & trans, but ive found a few 3800s. Would i be able to swap out my 3100 for a 3800?

If you can get the entire harness/PCM etc, I don't see why not.

I can't remember if the downpipes are the same though, I know the catback will bolt up so you might need to buy a downpipe as well...they're cheap though through ZZP.

Point me to one that is close to me and costs between 200-700 dollars and ill gladly buy it lol all the ones around me are close to 6k. Sadly I can't afford that. Especially now that its tax time

I have been looking into it and it does seem moderately difficult, definitely not a day job. I'll start looking into getting a 3800 and take a weekend off to tear it down and rebuild it before actually dropping it in.

Place a want ad on craigslist. You should be able to get a 97 in that price range.

Absolutely not. AC Delco filters are possibly the worst ones that fit the engine. Darn near anything else is a significant improvement.

As long as they're Delco/Autolite/NGK. Never use Bosch, Champion, E3, etc..

    Absolutely. Won't hurt anything.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

I might not be able to find one for that price, but check out the CL thread. I always post stuff in there, and since I live in Ohio they will probably be close to you....if I don't buy it first......

I'm emaiing this guy now and he is pretty negotiable with the price. Says the strut towers are in good shape, but the passanger side rockers have some "decent rust."

I was always told that fram was damn near the worse delcos were good cuz of the whole OEM aspect of it. I'll find a new brand within the week. Lots of old car guys at work.

I did see a nice 03 on there about 2 weeks ago for only 1500, put it in my favorites looked at it earlier and its skyrocketed to 4250.
Damn these jacked prices. I like the 02+ bodies but the 95-97 motors shouldn't bhe all horribly CPU controlled which can make swapping easier.

That ad makes me think I should definately expand my search to outside the trumbull/mahoning area.
