If he ran it hot enough to get it to shut off I gotta wonder how much damage he did to the head gaskets or heads them selfs.

A guy I work with was coming over to my house last weekend and his car was overheating and he kept going and blew the hg. A $100 fix turned into him needing a new head and possible motor but he just junked it. You might have a cracked/ warped head.

Running it hot one time till the computer shut it down likely around 255-260 shouldnt really have done that much. Its hard to blow a headgasket on a 3800.

I think the OP needs to give us more info on what else he has done or if he has even tried to get the air out of the system.

Did you bleed out the air as ffdp mentioned?... if he drove it as long as you said then I wouldn't be surprised if he blew the head gasket out.. or worse warped a head

So you bleed the cooling system with the bleed screw on the thermostat housing?

Did you fill the LIM with coolant first? As in taking the thermostat out and filling it up first then put the thermostat and housing back on.

If all you got was steam, then that means there is still ALOT of air in the system. Try filling the LIM first, then getting the car up to temp then open the bleed screw 1-2 turns, just enough to get air bubbles out and then soon a steady stream of coolant. It can take 10-15 min.
