    On gmpartsdirect.com they have listed the upper dash trim with heads up display 1st design and 2nd design, but there both under the 2004+ grand prix. Im just curious as to whats the difference between the two of them besides the price?

    I thought it was the color. I think #1 Is the gray color and #2 is black.

    Let's ask the dealer parts guy for more information. Likely it's like trans lines on the 97's. There were two designed based on what the production date was for the vehicle. It really seemed like it came down to length.
    I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    For you maybe, soon TLSheff will hop in with some basic info and ask for the vin. Then he'll give better info and the trans thing is an example.

    Trust me, I got this posting thing nailed down between the hours of 10am and 2pm. Anytime outside of that...you might have been right.

    Ok... officially baffled at GM and their screwed up electronic catalog for parts peoples. I can't find any official difference.

    04-05 shows a 1st/2nd design change. 06-08 show just different options depending on the cars build list.
    04 - shows the break in Vin# as follows 1st Design <==/ 41274594 ==> 2nd Design
    05 - shows the break in Vin# as follows 1st Design <==/ 51179737 ==> 2nd Design
    So if your vin is this number or later its 2nd design, before its 1st. Despite the vin difference on design change, 04-05 share the same numbers for the whole dash assembly so as long as you get 1st or 2nd narrowed down it shouldn't matter.

    Now based on the other parts, the Glove box shows to follow in the design change, you have to cut out a spot for the light when replacing new ones. The air bag module shows a hole cut out for the 1st design, built in tray for the 2nd. But basic things like this. No noted difference for any sensors, lights, or anything like that so ...

    Personal Opinion, would be write your vin# down, compare to the numbers and order depending.
