The windshield on my wife`s GXP got broken. Our insurance company will cover the cost of a new replacement windshield. But, it is taking a very long time to get the windshield. First the company, American Glass said it was in transit, (shipping) and we waited several weeks. And now they said it has to be made from the factory and that we won`t get it until January.
Are windshields hard to find for GXP Pontiac`s? Anyone have to replace your windshield and have to wait so long?
We even tried calling a different glass installer. I wonder if there are other windshield suppliers that will have one in stock?

I do know that gp's that have HUD has a special windshield that is more reflective. Windshields are not GXP specific.

I don`t know what HUD means, but they did say it was a special windshield. Does HUD refer to the cars instrument cluster reflecting on the windshield?

Yes heads up display is just that it reflects off the windshield. There is a special windshield for the hud cars. But I have installed factory heads up display in a 2012 grand sport corvette with a normal windshield and it was just fine. If that helps you any

My car didn't come with HUD but I added it on. I can see the display clear as day. Starting to think this "special" glass is a myth.

And this is with the camera confused on what it's trying to focus on.

03 GTP...Its got pulleys and stuff.

The special glass isn't a myth. When you see HUD displayed on the HUD glass it makes a world of difference.

And call SafeLite. I guarantee you they will have it in stock. If they don't, they will have it the next day.

The sharpness of the image is what you will notice between the two glass types, but I know many who added HUD's to their car and don't mind having normal glass.

I added a HUD to my old Gtp and compared to actually having HUD originally with the HUD glass makes the image much sharper.

for a 97-03 i wouldn't worry about getting the special glass seeing as how only the speed is displayed in the HUD but in the 04+ cars navigation, speed and warnings can be displayed in the HUD id get the correct glass

also it is NOT a Heads up Display is IS a HEAD UP DISPLAY there is NO "S"

    stealthee;
we called Safelite and they said they do not have a HUD windshield in stock and that the windshield comes from a regional supplier. If the regional suppliers do not have them in stock, then most likely it will have to be ordered.

Hmm. I know when I had mine replaced a few months back both were in stock, but I don't have HUD.

The HUD glass IS special for the 04+, and hasn't been manufactured since 2009 and THERE IS NO AFTERMARKET GLASS THAT WORKS CORRECTLY. See the ghosting in Keith's picture? That is what you get with normal glass. It WORKS, but is not correct. The factory HUD glass has zero ghosting, and unless you find a dealership with an old factory windshield laying around, you WILL NOT get correct glass.

All the glass places will tell you they have the HUD glass, and it costs WAY more, but the windshield they get from their distributor WILL BE REGULAR GLASS with the HUD part number, because it fits.

My previous posting about it. http://www.grandprixforums.net/hud-g...tml#post797123
