1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GT When purchased off show room floor temperature never went close to 210. Now runs between m190 and 220. Has a 190 thermostat.
Can it be replaced with a 160 degree one?

    Lets start simple here.

Have you ever serviced the cooling system??

If not, you need a coolant flush and new STOCK thermostat. It will then run around 195-205 like it should.

Replacing with a 180 or 160 is never needed in a normal situation.

210 is not hot and it not uncommon to see in traffic, we consider hot to be around 235+.

    1. Stock thermostat is 195F
    2. Low speed fans are programmed to come on once temp hits around 212F-216F.
    3. High speed fans are programmed to come on once temp hits 228F (rediculous we know)
    4. If you are moving and seeing 220F then there is an issue. If you are under 30mph though.. that is normal temps.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
