I have a 2004 Gt2 with a series 3 L26 3800 with 200000 miles on it want to buy a junkyard engine to rebuild to put on a turbo most all listings are for 2006 to 2008 anyone know what the diff. is other than the rods? Would rather have 2005 or newer for the better rods. Thanks

    They all have weak rods.

the 06+ has a number of gasket differences.

No oil pan gasket, just grey rtv, front cover gasket is metal, water pump gasket is metal etc.

04 would still have the crappy steel pan. 05+ has the aluminum pan and the nice motor mount that makes working on it a breeze.

You can easily go with a newer motor. I found 07 to be the most common year around here. 39K miles for $300 on Tuesday for a buddy and 50K for $300 on Friday.

Thanks for your help ! so to be clear if i get a 2006 or newer engine i want have any problems swapping it into the 2004 car? It's my wifes car she's getting a new car they want give anything in trade for it. It has been a great car 200000 miles only think had to do other than normal maintence was the little plastic pipe betwwen the intake and water pump cracked easy fix. the only other issue was the windsheild leaked. I like the body style figured why not make me a little hot rod out that car. I am a GM person all the way I have a 2000 2500 silverado 220000 miles on it runs like a new one ! My kids are in to the honda tuner cars they have nothing but trouble! Going to build me a honda killer!!!
