First of all, is it normal, that when the car is running and I turn the oil fill cap off the car dies? previously the car was running and idling fine, but would start and either die or almost die. So I changed the plugs and pcv valve. Changed the plugs to APP606's and a pcv from Orileys. it ran fine for the first few miles now runs poorly and has rpm stutter from 1500-2000 rpms, and now when I start it the rpms will surge for about 30 sec and then even out. While driving at hwy speeds if I let up on the pedal to slow down the rpms surge also. The car died on me while driving home one evening and threw three codes MAF, MAP, and throttle pos sensor. I replaced MAF sensor with a delco part from dealer, still not better. Is it possible the pcv isnt right for the car or defective? I pulled the 606's out and blasted the original plugs and put them back in. Was advised the cars ignition dont like platinum. None of these problems existed until I changed plugs and pcv.. I pulled the throttle body off today and cleaned it. It was pretty dirty. I reinstalled it now it throws code saying its idling rpms are higher than expected... What is wrong with this thing? I do have a set of 41-101 plugs to put in but I would like to eliminate one variable at a time and get this fixed. thanks for any help you have.

buddy of mine had this problem with his n/a grand prix, his rings were bad. but sounds like a vacuum problem. did u install the pcv wrong? have u checked the plugs? possible one or more of the plugs is broken or messed up. if they are broken then the piece might have messed up the valves. recheck your pcv valve. if you ran with a clogged pcv valve u probably damaged something.

well, this is pretty embarassing... The oring that goes on the bottom of the pcv valve was missing. I didnt notice it when i took the original one out, $.62 for an oring and it runs fine so far. I hope someone else reads this and checks it before they spend a week swearing at their GP..
