Thread: De- and Re-badging your vehicle.

Hey guys. I'm pretty new to the forum, but I was hoping to get a little help on something. I bought my GP about 2 weeks ago, and I'm absolutely loving it. However, as shown in the picture below, you can see the 'Grand Prix' on the hatch lid is peeling off. Since I plan on modifying my vehicle in the future (Black rims, window tint, etc.) I was thinking of just peeling off the rest of the chrome and throwing it into the black and white theme. But I might just peel off the whole badge and throw a new one on. So, I have a few questions for you.

1. Should I throw a new tag on, or just peel it off to black?
2. What are your methods of de-badging a vehicle?
3. How would I go about re-badging my car? Where would I find the badge?

always debadge and never rebadge. clean is the way to go. A lot pf people peel of the badge and use eraser wheel to strip the adhesive off. Polish those exhause tips too.

Do you think I should leave the 'GT' on there, or de-badge that as well? Honestly, what's so great about no badges?

And as for the exhaust tips, it's gonna happen. Still busy trying to get the title in-hand.

I would lose the GT as well and if I remember there is small GM badges in the fenders behind the front wheels. Lose them too. No badges look clean imo. There is a thread about badges somewhere on here and you will find very mixed opinions on the topic. All I have to say is that it is your car. Have fun with it.

i like badges i also like the de-badged look too, i kept my badges i just moved them into a different spot for a different look
its your car so do as you wish, i agree with Koscoe. fishing line then an eraser wheel, maybe some compond to clean it up a bit, then wax and grease clean, pre-clean, etc, then re install

Some people prefer no badges because they like the smoother look. It's all personal preference though.

I think some debadging is ok, like the GM squares, or the 3800 on the older models, but most people here think a complete debadge is the only way to roll. Do whatever you think will look the best. It will probably be easier to take it completely off than to try to cleanly get all the chrome off. If you're going to go with some black accents though, it might look good black.

Yeah, I plan on throwing on a lot of black accents (Rims, taillight tinting, window tints, etc.) and I'll probably peel the chrome off once all that's done and see whether I like it or not. If not, I'll debadge it the rest of the way.

(By the way, I just bought the car. I don't even have those plates anymore - I just returned them to the cars' previous owner and I know have the title in-hand!)

Just plasti-dip the badges if you like it black. It looks good if you going for the whole black white combo. And if you don't like it peel it off then debadge

I used floss instead of fishing line. Came right off with a hair dryer, then some polish to take extras off, like it was never there!

I have used floss a number of times, but it isn't as strong as fishing line.

When I debadged my cavalier a long time ago I bought some adhesive remover from the local auto paint supply store (i dont remember what it was called) and it worked liked magic. All you had to do was heat gun off the badges spray the glue with the remover and wipe away. Of course you had to wash and polish. All I did this time around was heat gunned the badges off pealed the glue away with my fingers with it still warm and use a little rubbing compound and wax to finish the job.
