    If you dont have a job, you probably wont be modding... it gets expensive as hell.

    I was in your shoes with my parents being hesitant about me working on my car, the car is under my dad's name for cheaper insurance reasons, but the financial end of it is totally mine, which I used against them and they agreed under a "you break it, you still pay for it" policy, lol. Since I started doing it and ended up being successful, not breaking things, and actually improving my car, I didnt hear any complaints. I didnt really get too into it though, being my car is NA and it's not really worth it.

    As for being afraid to cause damage... that's just something that you risk by modding, and best avoid by researching and reading and reading and then reading some more. It still happens sometimes, but as long as you're smart about it, take it slow while you're learning, and double and triple check your work... any mistakes made shouldnt be too catastrophic. If you have questions, ask. Sometimes on this forum you'll get a really sarcastic remark or whatever but most of the guys are really helpful when it comes down to it. I've learned a lot here.

    If you have a mod list, then fine... but you wont make it happen without a job, unless your parents are willing to finance it for you.

    I mean, Im minimally modded,
    $60 in my intake
    $200 in my plog
    $180 in my downpipe
    $150 in my hv3
    $275 for a tune plus core charge
    $500 for my wheels

    Get a job first, until then, it's all just day dreaming, then you can START to plan modding. It takes a lot of saving, some of the builds you see on here have been going 1-2 new mods a year for x amount of years, it's not just a "buy the car and be fully modded next month" thing. It's mostly about saving up for the next big one.

    Also, it wouldnt hurt to help try to educate your parents on what modding actually is.

    I know some adults have a particular idea in their head when "modding a car" comes to mind (read: FAST AND FURIOUS)
    Riced out honda with a fart can and huge subs in it, and you ruining a perfectly good car, etc.
    They have a very reckless and dangerous image in their head, I've run into many older people with this idea when they hear of a modded car.

    Show them that there are some smart people here who really know the ins and outs of automotive and how to properly modify things in a legitimate way.

    Also, why do you want to know why other people do what they do with their car?


    Maybe they keep it stock because its just a Daily driver, maybe they keep it stock because its a just a car to them and they are on this site for help fixing.

    Honestly for me, I dont care what other people do, I just tell them they are doing it wrong when they ask questions.

    Dude, we're all clearly willing to talk to you and answer questions you may have. But seriously...you have made 6 threads regarding modifications ALONE, and that doesn't include the ones about your car. Read, sir, read. Do some homework.

    I have had my car about 4 years now and quite a bit of money into mine.. I never really planned on spending this much money on it but I have lol. Took me a few years to get where I am obviously, but in the end, well worth it.

    LOL yeah, we knew that night we were going to break it. Turned the boost up to 16lbs just to play with the Procharged/Cammed Mustang, he walks him on 9lbs, let alone 16lbs. It was time the car got a new chain, that one was getting pretty sloppy.

    you have a nice car its newer and its a Comp G just drive it, there's no point on doing any mods to it if you dont even have an idea of what you wanna do. plus if you have to take it to a speed shop the little mods you want probably aint worth the amount of money your gonna spend there, especially if you dont have job.

    if I had a stock comp G, I would not mod it any further than smashing a nice big air filter where the airbox is. i have 2 GTP's and they are both completely stock passed cold air intakes (I have custom tunes on both, but I am a tuner...)

    I had an intake on mine within the first week lol. Tell your parents that just some mods like intake/exhaust/tune can give you better MPGs besides power, that's a good persuasion tactic. And unless you completely mess up the tune the chances of blowing the motor up are nil.

    a friend of mine who owned a 2002 GT said the exact same thing to me when i talk about modding mine, but i'll agree with the above posted multiple times (not to be a jerk) but i'm in the same situation with my car....

    It's all just dreams man, and untill you can get a job and make some cash, mod's are dreams....

    I had the same view as you when i bought my g-p, my rent's were being a$$holes about mods (i finially got my way with them that it's my car, and i can do what i want with it) Now that i have convinced my dad into helping me build another 3800 for my car, my dream's are soon going to become reality... Things do add up QUICK

    BTW, Comp-G's are awesome.... If i could ever resell my car and save, i'd be surely looking at getting one (or a GXP or G6)

    My GTP is stock after the CAI. I'd love to do more with it, but even after you get out of school...college... and get a job, then you get bills to pay, like the loans you took out for college, and just life in general. I'm in the same boat and have a wish list of mods, but don't see anything serious happening anytime soon. I'm planning on enjoying the car and drive it. The real reason I'd like some mods is to make a bit of a sleeper and surprise anyone who talks smack, but in the grand scheme of things, I'll likely never take the car to a track (I live in the sticks) so dropping a lot cash into mods doesn't really make a lot sense.
    Now that I said that, if I won the lottery that I don't buy tickets for, if it wasn't enough to buy a Z06, I'd buy some headers and smaller pulley almost right away.
