Re: Anyone Running A Stock GTP With No Future Plans Of Modding
I get what your asking so... The only reason I have not gone further on my mods is due to funds, so stock is what I am happy with. I hope to go faster though. I like the occasional race or to at least win one lol. Also some of the coolest mods are not always performance orientated, i.e. the Grand Prix 1992-2003 - $65.00 : Humount, Quality Mounting Brackets radio mount is one thing I will be getting.
Re: Anyone Running A Stock GTP With No Future Plans Of Modding
I had a 2001 GTP that didn't get modded that was a daily. I had money to mod it but chose not to. I was content with the intake on it and it didn't need anything else.
Re: Anyone Running A Stock GTP With No Future Plans Of Modding
My 05 CompG is not stock :) and love it, its my daily driver and have owned it for 3 years now. I do have a good job and have a few mods thanks to this forum . SD headers , Open Cone, al 104 , Tune and 3.6 MPS . Like any car there is always the ones who want to keep there car stock or want more power under that hood its about personal preference . It took me 2 years to do anything to my car since it was under warranty, im glad I waited since I did have it serviced about 4 times. :)
Re: Anyone Running A Stock GTP With No Future Plans Of Modding
My daily driver has been my 2001 Grand Prix 2001 GTP, bought brand new and never modded in anyway. All I have done is upgrade the stereo, brakes and calipers but that's it. I feel that if I modded it and got more speed, it probably just get me in trouble. It's more of a time and space thing with me, I got no time for anything and just a tiny one car garage in a townhome, not really a great space for modding cars.
It now has almost 100,000 miles on it and it has never been tuned up, it is getting a little sluggish, so I plan it getting the plugs, wires, throttle body, fuel filter and vacuum hoses looked at. It might be awhile because right now I am in the middle of not one but two house renovations. :D
Re: Anyone Running A Stock GTP With No Future Plans Of Modding
i have a stock SE.
id do an l67 swap...but after all said and done id still be making under 200 whp.
FWD is no fun for go fast.
fastest ive seen these cars go without spending tons of money into built trans/intercoolers/heads is like...290-300 whp.
still slow. lol
Re: Anyone Running A Stock GTP With No Future Plans Of Modding
Mine isnt modded. I thought about it at first but decided i didnt wanna go that route with my dd. Im 30yrs old with kids etc. Ive honestly got better things to spend money on than trying to make a sedan "fast". Ive got a hai and a ubend delete (cuz my stock pipe took a chit). Ive went thru a few set of sheels but they were mostly trades or ive made my money back and then some on deals. The only thing id like is a fresh paint job. But no...i have no need or desire to further mod my gtp. Do yourself a favor and leave yours alone, save yourself some money and buy something worth buying, like a house or sometjing good.
Re: Anyone Running A Stock GTP With No Future Plans Of Modding
I would love to mod it but I can only afford one money pit.
Re: Anyone Running A Stock GTP With No Future Plans Of Modding
My car won't be modded beyond an intake and the downpipe which was a forced upgrade. There is no point in modifying a 3600 lb FWD, nose heavy, poor handling, family car.
Re: Anyone Running A Stock GTP With No Future Plans Of Modding
Ive got a stock 1997 GTP with no mods. Its got just over 165,000 miles on it so im not planning on doing any hefty work on it. Unless this thread thinks it would be good to cause i really dont know.
Re: Anyone Running A Stock GTP With No Future Plans Of Modding
I have a 98 gtp. I plan just keeping it clean and maintaned and running great like it does. I done a few things intake wheels and clear corners but thats it.
Re: Anyone Running A Stock GTP With No Future Plans Of Modding
i got a stock 97 GTP besides intake. All im doing for now is looks. So it will look fast, but really isnt.

My 97 has 199K with a turbo kit on it. ;) as long as it has been cared for it will be fine. I do have a built tranny though. :)

I'm in the same boat and have a wish list of mods, but don't see anything serious happening anytime soon. I'm planning on enjoying the car and drive it. The real reason I'd like some mods is to make a bit of a sleeper and surprise anyone who talks smack, but in the grand scheme of things, I'll likely never take the car to a track (I live in the sticks) so dropping a lot cash into mods doesn't really make a lot sense.
Now that I said that, if I won the lottery that I don't buy tickets for, if it wasn't enough to buy a Z06, I'd buy some headers and smaller pulley almost right away.
I agree with the first part, But i track auto x and drag my car 98 all the time. I also agree driving a cheaper car and not modding it to get nicer things is worth it. For example its hilarious to see a trailer with a z06 outside or an itsy bitsy house with a viper ect ect. Id rather come home to a nice place to eat sh%t and enjoy my family than show off a car. Real estate usually only appreciates unlike a car as well.
Ive owned my 98 for 6+years? It doesnt owe me a dime. Handles decent runs high 12s in street trim and even better on slicks:th_king-evil:
These cars are cheap as hell to buy mod repair and make great dailys. Driving a cheaper car makes it easier to Buy a nice house, toys, do fun things that if you had a payment for a more expensive car, would make it harder to do.
My 99, needs basic maintenance from sitting in the weeds, ill likely pull off the IC and just leave headers on it, and keep it as the spare spare car, and throw an economy tune on it. Maybe ill throw rockers on it... maybe keep the ic and upgrade to a full core.... lol

Speedgrid, I'm not sure how far you are from Saratoga but this guy ^^ is worth asking about helping you with mods or tuning or a general direction with your car. He seems local and experienced in these platforms. So just as a tip, here's a local worth asking. :)
Re: Anyone Running A Stock GTP With No Future Plans Of Modding
i originally got my GP GT in 04 because it was big and thought it would make me not go fast or do any mods to it. that lasted about a year.
