Hi all! New to this forum, but not new to pontiacs. I have owned a 03 grand am and my wife currently owns a g6. I currently own a trailblazer, but due to gas, ive been exploring trade options. Found a guy with a 07 grand prix with low miles. Problem is it has a salvage title, which i dont too much mind. Just want to run this by others as i am no mechanic, although i do research on sites like these and perform my own repairs to save money instead of giving it to the stealerships!

car was hit in front and things that were repaired are axle and rotor, side fender, bumper, windshield and its currently missing driver mirror. Do any of these things throw up red flags? I know sometimes once a certain part is tore up, its hard to fix right so just wanna make sure these arent any of those parts, if that makes sense! Also, the fender and bumper that was replaced is still black primer color and the paint job is the metallic blueish/greenish looking color. Where could i get that color paint at?

Thanks for all the help in advance!

also, while im thinking about it, estimated fuel economy hwy is 26 mpg. Now thats a lot better than the trailblazer, but are there mods that can increase my mpg? Hp doesnt concern me as much as mpg. Im not a nascar driver, so i dont have to drive faster than everyone else.

    Speed limit and proper maintence.

    They say 26ish.

I bet you could get 28-30 doing around 65ish mph, thats the sweet spot for me. I can get 30-31, but Im also a GTP and modded.

Only thing the makes me wonder is the damage and repair work and thats its still not painted.

    If you're looking for good MPG, I wouldn't buy a full-sized v6................................................ ..............

Whenever you buy a car with a salvaged title you are running a certain risk. From what you are explaining, the car is titled as salvaged b/c it was rebuilt after a total loss. That being said, if the seller is telling you that much was done, go ahead and times it by 3, it's probably had extensive work done to it.

Best thing to do is find a shop that specializes in body/frame work for insurance company claims, usually the ones that have lifetime guarantees on their work. Take it to them and let them look it over, even if it costs you an hr of labor. They can tell what was or wasn't repaired right and if you'll have problems later.

My black GTP is a salvage title. It appears to be pretty much ok, they replaced most of the major parts that got damaged. The only thing I can even find that hints that its been wrecked, is the excessive camber on the right front wheel before an alignment, where the suspension mounting points have been flexed a bit. For the price I paid, I can't complain though. However, I've seen some rebuilds where people have to fix the front impact zones and do a horrible job welding things back. The true quality of the damage repair lies under that primered bumper.

what they said ^ if it needed to get its windshield replaced it was smashed pretty bad and thats what raises a concern cuz it wasnt just a front end collision which to me means the frame had to of been affected in some way. i hate body work but IMO i feel that as long as the frame hasnt been touched, you can pretty much repair anything and make it the same. but on a lot of cars ive seen stuff just doesnt line up the same after frames have been straightened or whatever. if you really want a grand prix you can get one. there will be plenty that come up for a good price. never settle for the first one you find especially with such work.

This platform doesn't have a frame......its a unibody. Therefore, any damage done to the car would ultimately affect its structural integrity in one way or another.....

Have it checked out first if you want it, decide from there. Either way, don't pay whatever KBB/NADA is saying it's worth if it's a salvage. Never pay full price for a car that was wrecked so bad the insurance company didn't think it was worth the hassle.

I dont know man....I hit many deer with my other GP's in Michigan and never once did the insurance company claim it as a total. Sounds like they took the money for the total, bought the car back for a few hundred bucks, threw another few hundred bucks in parts at it and are selling it for profit. And if you ever want to sell it, that salvaged title will come back to haunt you.

03 GTP...Its got pulleys and stuff.

my GP had 6 owners before and one of them smashed the front bumper in, it got repaired and replaced a couple years ago and my car drives just fine. mine wasnt a salvage title though. a salvage only means that the damage done to the car didnt equal the cars value or something.

my dads car got its door smashed in by some idiot, and because his 98 diamante wasnt valued that high, and the estimate to repair it was so expensive, the car was branded salvaged, even though he got the door replaced and the car is in extremely excellent condition

its really a gamble, but you shouldnt look into buying a salvaged car unless you really know how to evaluate cars
