my cousin bought it back in the day. uncle told me how nice they are, i checked it out and it was nice but not what i was lookin for. year passed and they decided to sell it to me because dealer wouldnt give them what they wanted. so yeah, i got it. now my cousin is driving an 08 gxp.
granted i didnt know sh1t about w-body nor the 3800. nor did i care it didnt had a supercharger. it does what its suppose to, looks nice and has lots of room.
i just made it alot less comfortable with lowering springs and such. 40 000 miles since the purchase car has 163 000 miles and hasnt ever let me down. although it gave me a few headaches.
Sick of driving my 93 chevy pickup and I seen a nice looking car that was a gm product so I took it for a drive and liked it so I bought it. Now its sitting in my garage dead.
LOL. You either love them or hate them. Mine was black with a single silver racing stripe down the middle, targa top, ZR1 wheels, headers, and fun as hell to take around corners. I actually prefer the C5 body style, but the C4 value wise was worth more than the GTP. It was hard to pass up a RWD V8 fiberglass body car that was a straight trade.
Well I didn't. I bought a Buick Riviera...Hit a deer going 60 and totaled it.....Wanted a supercharged Monte Carlo....Couldn't find one in my price range....Found a L36 special edition Monte Carlo SS.....Waste all my money trying to make it fast....
.........
Needed a car for college, quick and cheap. I always liked Grand Prixs so I grabbed the pink one. Because of the color I got it for $3800 otd 88k miles and only 4 years old. Drove it until the 3100 puked intake gaskets out. When they puked the 2nd time (mechanic used plastic and overtightened I think), I said screw it and went the whole swap route. Never did anything but brakes before... and I did a whole engine swap, with cam, headers, GT harness I had to rewire. Fired up the first time, has ever since. The car made me a 3800/GP nut. Anyone who rides in it loves it.
Back in March, a guy I had tow cars for me a couple times was told by a coworker I'm a GP nut. He had a car with a junked title, $500. It was a '98 GTP. I went and looked at it: not horrid shape, not wonderful, but the engine ran with 160k on the clock. He towed it home for me and I ended up getting a salvage title for it, and once I broke into it found it has an issue with the transmission. So It's currently sitting until I decide what to do.
Last month I asked around for a transmission for the GTP and some guy mentioned a Bonneville. It's an 01 SE with 250k miles on it, but I traded him some random stuff for it, no money involved on my end. It's a clean title car, never been in a wreck, just slightly neglected. It's got a miss that is probably a cracked intake manifold at the EGR. I'm actually going to work on it tomorrow. I think this will become a turbo project in the near future... but who knows?
I love 3800s so much at this point, I'd pick one of them in a Firebird over an LS1... and turbo it. I'm a poor, twisted individual.
My aunt got a mint white 99 GT when it was only a couple years old (which she still has and is just as nice as it was in 1999), so I wasn't 16 yet but I loved the interior (of all things lol). So then my dad found a 99 GT, I knew about the superchargers but honestly, I read someone's post on this forum saying "well people here think you don't exist unless you have a supercharged grand prix" so I was like well fek that attitude I'm getting a GT.
Well.. kept it for a year? I ended up having a fit for a nicer GP that was supercharged.
But then there's the chance that someone drugged me and I bought a GP. who knows...
Because we were VERY specific on the GTO we wanted. It had to be red, black interior, LS2 with a 6 speed manual and the closest one was a few hundred miles away, so we settled for the GXP, still would rather have the GTO because it would get better highway mileage and be faster but oh well we like the Prix.
I didn't really want one fought with my dad for 2 years every car I wanted to buy he had a problem with but here told his salesman I was looking for a car so we got a call went in checked it out 56k miles fully loaded new tires brakes and battery I took it for a test drive loved it still wasn't sold on it then the dealer threw in a warranty and I was like alright I guess all and all it turned out to be a great choice and I'm really glad my dad didn't let me buy some of those other cars I was looking at
I got hooked when I was young, like when I was 8 and began to put aside money. Grandma got one used in 2001. I drove it a few times after getting my license and liked how it drove as much as I liked the appearance and interior. I guess I am a sucker for the Pontiac styling. Grandma sold her summer place and didn't need her Michigan car anymore and I got it for free. Started driving it in early 08. Been driving it ever since.
blowers are more fun end of story
