If the compressor doesn't turn on when you turn your ac on then your likely out of R-134a. Put a can of UV dye in it and you'll be able to see where it's leaking from.
Ac systems never just need a recharge. Its a sealed system and if it ever gets low its because there is a leak.
Same thing with brakes: sealed system. If the fluid ever goes down, there is a leak. It doesn't magically evaporate or disappear.
Side story: This girl I dated didn't like using the A/C cause of all the environmental effects from freon. I tried explaining to her its a closed system... if you have it and keep using it it's less likely to leak (keeps seals soft) and never leaves the system. The cold air you feel isn't the freon being expelled into your face... She never got it. :P
hello i am thinking of buying a
2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Supercharged the person told me that there is a a/c pump. Has a whine in it and has been like it for awhile. should i pass or not otherwise the car looks too be in good shape..thanks rennie
If it's definitely in the A/C... a new compressor is about $200. Install it yourself and fill it up for about $50 more. It's a one day activity. Might be a bit dirty if it's an original car with typical leaky valve covers though.
Not really, 90 day warranty as is. Just checked and new one can be had for $230 here. If you want to "validate" the extended 2yr warranty, all you need is a $30 accumulator and a $5 orifice tube. Hardly $400.
