Does any body know of a good Engine Degreaser? Something strong, but not so potent that it could take paint off of the engine bay area. I used to have this stuff that my body shop guy recommended-came in an aluminum can and smelled like mineral spirits. Worked really well for grease and getting tar off of paint...just don't know the name.

    Any thoughts?

That's your run of the mill engine degreaser. It sucks. Purple Cleaner all the way.

i use foamy engine de greaser, made by GUNK i think. stuff works real good, keep it off the cars paint tho, it removes the wax you may have on the car.

when i first got my car it was a real mess, so i drove up on car ramps, and sprayed it all underneath and then sprayed the top and sides, let it sit, then hosed it down, from the top and bottom. used 2 large cans. you can use a paint brush on thick grease build up areas as well.

i also like to use a air compressor to blow dry it after im done, but you can make due with out it.

The best that I have found is "SIMPLE GREEN" for de-greassing anything, with the exception of wheel bearing greease. Work great to
for cleaning hands too. Smells good, doesent hurt paint, no bad fumes, non-flammable.

I've used Simple Green, Simple Green Automotive, Purple Power and some commercial degreasers. They all work decently until the grease is 1/4" or more thick. That will always take a couple applications.

or....you could just pressure wash and be done. That is my current method of choice with any degreaser
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I've had great luck with Simple Green. It doesn't leave a film behind like Purple Power does. Also, as someone said, you can use it to clean your hands. I'd spray it all over my arms, then hose them off. Do it with any other degreaser and you'll be screaming at the burning sensation from your pores. lol

or you can buy the degreaser you put in your pressure washer and have x2 power in faster time!

when i worked at a garbage company, every week we aka me the driver, or the driver of what ever truck, had to de grease, and then wash the whole truck bumper to bumper and under the hood, im talking frame axle's engine everything.

we had zep de greaser in a 55 gal drum, pumped it into a lawn pump sprayer, sprayed every thing except the painted cab, then washed it down with a hottsy power washer.

then we had a another can full of commercial powdered soap, yeah you know it, a stick with a brush on the end with soap on everything again. then rinsed with just hose. if done the way the boss wanted, it took an hour to wash it.

I've wanted to try this stuff we have my work but I'm afraid it would eat something, cuz if you get it on your hands it eats your skin, it works really well for cleaning ovens

When I used to to clean construction equipment we had this stuff we would spray in the engine bay and it would take the paint off. The first time I used it I got it on my hand and did not think much of it till I thought my hand was melting off. Most of the equipment had a few inches of oil and dirt on the bottom of the motors and that stuff would eat it right up.
