SO I was just watching vids on the GP on youtube, and one caught my attention.

The guy in the vid says that you are able to remove the 3 button DIC with the plastic center console trim, and replace it with a 5 button DIC with no modification. Plug it in and your car will display everything.

I'm curious to how true that is? I know on the 5 button, it has compass, temp, as well as many other features. Does the GT1 have everything in it to be able to run a 5 button DIC?

DIC swaps are common for those looking for a larger DIC.

Plug and play. Compass and Ambient Air Temp sensor sold seperately.

You have to have a dealer use a tech 2 change the odometer or run 2 DICs.

I think so, but the DIC counts your mileage.

So the replacement DIC will show a different mileage.

Mad monkey figured out a way to retain his original DIC and keep it recording mileage.

SO the BCM doesn't store your mileage in the GP?

It does, but it isn't displayed from the bcm. Its kind of hard to explain. The BCM is kind of like the computer where as the DIC is kind of like the display... but a display the keeps memory.

wow, so it really is that easy to fake out the mileage on these cars.. find one with low miles and swap the DIC. That somewhat sucks.

yup, mileage doesn't matter in terms of wear and tear much anymore either.

My upgraded Big DIC on the 04 reads low, its off by about 10k IIRC. But I never plan to sell it and in my state after 5 years odometers don't matter for title purposes anyway.
