What exactly is it? I know it makes the car shift better/faster and helps acceleration but am I missing somethign here. Also why did Pontiac get rid of it in 2001-2003?

I think I found my answer. The performance shift button on the pre 2001's gave to the chice to choose between shift types. the newer GPs don't give you the option, they are just in performance shift mode all the time. Can anyone chime in and verify this?
Thats the basics. The differences in the shift tables isn't that large. There's maybe a couple hundred rpm difference between perf and normal IIRC.
When tuning a car, I like to add a bit more of a spread to make it more noticable. Kinda like Normal and Racecar
iknow the pre 2001 have it and it does give you different shifts, but for newer i wanna say its there still but i could be wrong. i know ive seen the perf shift in the gauge cluster and on mine its in the dic so i guess thats the difference. never owned a newer gp.
