So I went to get the newer spark plug clips and I was told that my steering colum was on recall.
My windshield wipers were missing something.
My valve covers need a gasket.
So I knew of the clips but what was all the other stuff for?

probably the shop trying to sell you stuff because they don't make any money doing the recall. GM wiper blades are like $30 a piece and practically no labor. and the recall was either/or on the VC gaskets and spark plug clips. if supercharged, you get valve cover gaskets. if not, you get spark plug retainers. VC gaskets and intermediate shaft probably pays almost 3 hours. $100 an hour labor minus $20 an hour to pay the tech = $240 profit for the shop
99 GT - top swapped, S2X cam. - sadly, sold

valve covers tend to leak after a while from the factory.

steering coloum, I havent heard of that one, but if its a recall its free, so i wouldnt care.

This is on my 97 but it's for 96 gp's. I do know mine was born early in production that year

Summary: CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES HAVE LOWER PINION BEARINGS IN THE POWER RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY IN WHICH THE RETAINER TABS WERE NOT CRIMPED PROPERLY. THESE RETAINERS COULD FAIL AND PERMIT THE BALL BEARINGS TO ESCAPE.

im sure it was just the parts that they got, were built poorly by what ever plant supplied them. not a big deal.

FREE BRAND NEW RACK, YOU WIN! they all go bad sooner or later, so a free new one is great.
