Re: What Motor oil do you use in your grand prix?
I switched to synthetic for the first time 2 months ago. I put Castrol Edge full synthetic 5w-30 (it was on sale and had $7 mail in rebate) with K&N Filter (also on sale). I likely wont be using it again because of the price, and i believe its too light for my engine (I will be sticking to 10w-30), but its been great for now, as my engine it beat on pretty hard going on about 6-8 short trips per day (<3 miles/trip).
Overall I recommend using 10w-30 full synthetic (any) with a K&N filter. It doesn't matter on the mileage, as to if you can switch to synthetic or not.

From what I have heard it is hard on the seals. Don't know if that has been proven or not but eh.

...less awesome. Unless you already have a stock of the old stuff (which you do, but nobody else does), Delco filters are crappity-crap. So, always remember to buy... pretty much anything else.

So i see, yet another informative tip. This helps alot. I figured the 5w-30 would be to thin, i know a thing or two about viscosity. and Castrol edge is what is on sale at my local advace auto so that leans me more towards.
Anyone here try Bosch distant plus filters( thats what comes with the sale)? I mean i likie bosch as a brand and know they are good but not exactly sure about thier filters...

I am going to buy a pf-52 size filter but from k&n or bosch. The last owner mentioned that is had a bigger filter( of course i did my research)
Re: What Motor oil do you use in your grand prix?
Don't spend extra on the K&N filter, save a couple bucks and get the Mobil 1. They're made by the same company, K&N is usually 2-3 dollars more. The mobil 1 filter number is M1-201 for the bigger filter.
Re: What Motor oil do you use in your grand prix?
Crude oil.
**** your couch.
Re: What Motor oil do you use in your grand prix?
I use AMSoil 0w30 with a K&N wrench off in the Racecar
Daily gets whatever is on sale.
Re: What Motor oil do you use in your grand prix?
I use Castrol Edge Titanium, 5w30... and I know some people will call bs on this but there really is a difference in smoothness running and acceleration between conventional and Edge... and I just feel like, if Im gunna be running the car to 6k rpm here and there... and 3.5-4k pretty often, I definitely want that synthetic in there. I just feel better about my engine as a whole with a better oil in it, considering all the forces the bearings and valve train and all the moving parts endure in a revving engine.
I read quite a few people comment on K&N Filters and while the nut on the end really makes it easy to get it off the car, Im not a big fan of K&N filters. I say this because I used to use K&N every oil change, until one month Advance had a special with the Edge I use with a Bosch Distance Plus filter so I got it. I never took notice before but my oil stayed clean and gold in color all the way through the oil change with the Bosch, while by 1-1.5k on the oil change, the oil is turning dirty and dark with the K&N. So I've been using Bosch for awhile now and consistently seeing relatively good looking oil at change time, last change there was a special with K&N so I thought what the hell and got it... and lo and behold, my oil was dark and dirty before I had 1k on the new oil.
So yeah, Im about the Bosch Distance Plus, now.
Re: What Motor oil do you use in your grand prix?
the cheapest 10W30 they have
the 99 has 196K
the 97 has 230K on the body and 155K on the engine
full synthetic would just clean all the dirt out and make it leak
the Lebaron and merc use the cheapest 5w30
the merc has 210k
the lebaron has 134k

Again with misinformation. Yes the mileage does matter. Synthetic will get into areas that conventional oil has deposited and swelled seals over the year basically flushing it out causing massive leaks.

Save even more money and get a Purolator which is even better than the K&N and Mobil 1.
Re: What Motor oil do you use in your grand prix?
Yeah once AC delco switched to the E-core style filters I bought about 30 of the old style ones off of the shelf. When I'm done with these in a few years I will probably switch over to the Mobil1 filters, they are a little more than a value filter but the best they make.
Re: What Motor oil do you use in your grand prix?
Rofl at the difference between 5w-30 and 10w-30.
I'm running 0W-20.
Plenty of oil pressure to go around.
Re: What Motor oil do you use in your grand prix?
The only pressure in this thread is peer pressure.
Re: What Motor oil do you use in your grand prix?
Synthetic Mobil1 or Amsoil. Depending on how fast i need it.
Re: What Motor oil do you use in your grand prix?
10-40w Valvoline Max Life
About to roll over 200K
Re: What Motor oil do you use in your grand prix?
When I had a built up motor, I used syn. Now that I'm just driving a car and I know it's high mileage and was maintenance abused for years, I'm not fussy. Although I do maintain a 3,000 mile change interval.
Syn can take abuse and longer changes, but you'll still put deposits in the valleys and motor.
I'd stick to a good interval and not be worried.
