Hey,

So i've been experiencing what i've learned is a common problem where the ignition won't turn back far enough to get the key out. Rather than just pull the solenoid as many have mentioned i figured i'd pull apart the center console to see if there was a bad connection.

No bad connection found so i just put some dielectric grease on the connections and figured i'd give it a try for a few days and see how it went.

Sounds simple, and like the end of the story right??

No so much. Before i put things back together i ran through the gears just to make sure everything was okay and noticed weirdness in the cluster. I had seen some of this before the disassembly but didn't take much note of it as i had already decided to take things apart.

Here's the rundown:

If the car is running and the car is in park the "P" in the cluster doesn't light but if i push the shift release button keeping my foot _off_ the brake then the "P" lights up. If i put my foot on the brake then the "P" light dims.

If i turn the car off and put the key in the ACCY position then the "P" lights up bright.

If i put the key in the "Start" position then the "P" light is off. If i push the shift release button then the light comes on dim. If i put my foot on the brake then the light goes off again.

For the most part RD123 lights all work as expected and the "N" follows the state of "P".

Can anyone shed some light on what is going on here? (pun intended)

thanks,
dean
