So after 3 years of ownership..my GTP has finally given me a real headache, my trans is toast. Actually it seems to be the foward apply band but from what I gather it would need a rebuild regardless. My question here is is it worth it to fix it or should I sell it a s is? If I sold it as is what would it be worth?

The car is in damn good shape and runs near perfect. The only issues that would need to be addressed soon would be LCA's, leaky PS pump and I believe it has a slight leak from the valve covers. Installed GMPP handling kit GMPP/Koni set up, Hub bearings, brakes/rotors, axles, tune up have all been done recently. Shops around here are quoting between 2200-3000 bucks for a rebuild. I know I have the option of a junkyard trans and ZZP which would save some $$ but then I would still have to pay for install which I was quoted $850.

Im not exactly wealthy..lol so saving and shelling out that kinda $$ is tough for me but at the same time it wouldnt be any easier buying a new car. I'm just confused I guess and ranting here. I do love the GTP and if I sold this one Id definetly get another one day (this time Id get a 4 door so I can use it everyday) Any advice/offers would be appreciated

Heres a pic 1 hour before she wouldnt go foward anymore..lol

And summer wheels..uugh I wish it wasnt broken..lol

Fixing a car you already know the maintnance history on is always better than buying a cheap car. (for this discussion, cheap is anything under $3k)

Talk to ScottyDoggs.. he recently had a trans issue and found a cost effective way to fix it. Cost him a days worth of time to drive up here though. Not sure how well a car drives once the FWD band breaks, but if you have the ability to get it here, I can save you a pile on that labor. Orrrr I know a buddy down your way ...uh not sure where..but think he's in the northern part of Jersey.

a trip up north to bills house is money well spent if you ask me, not sure if he has any more connections for another used trans. it took me almost 3 hrs to get there from Hackensack, left at 7 am, was at bills by 10 am. trans swap took less than 4 hrs, and a 3 hrs drive back home, with 3 rd gear this time. it was a full day getting there and back and all but world take that trip again if i needed the big help again for sure.

and hes a nice guy, just dont slam the took chest draws and you'll be fine

If you get the trans I can put it in. My zip is 07748. I can come to you if that garage in the background is an option ;-). Email me at Howardjs12@gmail.com we can discuss details.

SWEEET....Scott listened when I told him my pet peeve. Cause trying to unjamb toolbox drawers can take forever. Finding a trans isn't bad. A guy down the street from me tried to sell his daughters car to me and within a week he had found a $250 trans and it was installed.

You know Bill, if you don't overload the drawers, you don't have to worry about unjamming them.

If you slam a full ball bearing drawer, things fly. I've got a pretty decent sized box and yet..find myself looking for more room.

Justin..you are on bolt duty again..the next time you come over....

Honestly if you still enjoy the car I'd keep t. You know what all has been replaced and how the car was cared for. Purchasing another car may bring on new headaches. And if shops are quoting you like $2,500-$3,000 for a rebuild then I would contact Tim King. My built tranny from him ran around $2100 and that was shipped. I imagine a stock rebuild would be quite a bit cheaper. The shop I had it shipped to charged me $500 to put it in. Good luck, overall the trannys are probably the most annoying issue on the GP.

Totally off topic, but I've never seen another set of TSW Nogaros on a GTP... I have a set in chrome on the Sedan.
