I never get above 25 mpg in my car with high mileage and it hate it.
I drove a 00 gt with 171k, and one with 140k, both got 33-35 mpg going 55 down highway at 1800 rpm. Ive had 5 or 6 gps now, and they all gotten over 30 if i tried, even my 05 comp g. I had a 98 gtp with 210k and it got about 29.
I got 27 mpg going 75-80 on a 400 mile trip. in my 01 gt with 63k miles
Now that it has been 55* or better, I have been getting around 32 or better, keeping it below 70 mph and no foot to the floor shenanigans. Not bad for a 300 horsepower 14 year old car.
Much better. 18.7 mpg on my last tank, mostly city. About 85% city driving I'd say. A little better than last year too, that new upstream sensor might be helping.
My 94 mkviii has been getting about 22mpg
14 mpg with 99% city driving and thats puttin around like a little old lady . up from 11.5 since it's warmed up. don't know if it's because of the weather or all the new stuff i threw at it. cone filter , new iridium plugs , wires , pcv valve , upstream O2 , cleaned the maf and AIT sensor , changed from dyno to royal purple synthetic , and threw a can of royal purple max clean in it. i don't what else to try.
Good luck gaining any more mpg, I drove 5 miles a day in my car and never got better than 14-16 city.
Tanks lasted maybe 225-250 miles, but 14-20 days per fill up and I never cared.
Royal purple is too rich for me, it's no better than vavloline syn and thats way cheaper.
the royal purple products will be a one time only thing , just as the K$N filter. i actually went to wally world to get mobil one and thought what the heck. might as well . the only reason i bought the OVERPRICED K$N filter was i needed to add something to an order to get the free shipping and the filter put me just inside the advanced auto minimum of 75$.
both the RP products boast increased fuel mileage , so now i can speak with experience ...BULL SH*T !!!
i'll stick with M1 products and change every 6 months. 10w-30 may-oct ...5w-30 nov-april
i just don't get why some of us get such poor mpg , and others do so much better. i often ask GTP drivers when i see them out and about , about their mpg and it's ALWAYS much better than mine. usually the 17 to 20 range is the answer i get and even higher numbers from the GT drivers.

if your all stop and go driving, its gonna be piss poor. mine was down to 12 when i was stock, tuning does seem to have helped th mph out. last road trip i took last week, 200 mile trip i had already put 50 miles on the tank when we left at the dic was 18 for most of that 50 miles. then all highway for 100 miles i was at 24 mpg avg, it took 12 gallons to fill the tank up, math says i got 20 mpg avg. and i only got the 250 miles out of the tank, granted, i had 4 to 5 gallons left in the tank, so i f i had pushed it i would have cleared 300 miles or more.
i do, do a lot of stop and go. my daily trip to work and back is 2.7 miles each way. about 3/4 of a mile of that trip is at 45-50 mph without a stop and the rest is 25-35 mph with an average of probably 4 stop an go's.
sounds like my local driving. 12 to 14 is the norm really. all you can do is drive it as soft as you can off the line, let off the gas make it shift early into the next gear, coarst to stop or red lights to try to milk every last mile out of it.
to keep that local 18 im getting, i need to baby the living day lights out of it, or the avg drops like mad.
i've also confimed my DIC is a liar. for about every 5 to 6 gallons of fuel it says i've used , it's off by half a gallon. for examples if i fill back up , and when i fill up i put it in till it's completely full in the filler neck, but if it says i've used 5.5 gallons and i fill it back up it will take 6 or slightly more. if it says i've used 12 gallons it will take 13+ gallons to fill it back up.
could it be it does not factor in idling fuel used ?
Idling is not taken into account as much, I can confirm that. It will use more fuel idling than the car thinks it is, more so when in the winter and car uses more fuel to try and heat up the motor/converter faster.
And my truck is the same way with the DIC, says that I've used 19-20 gallons but I go to fill up and it takes 22 just about every single time.
I use my remote start all the time because I have it LOL.
probably...my dash is lit up like a christmas tree ...
actually the last code pulled was for the rear 02 sensor. i changed the upstream although it wasn't giving a code, hoping to maybe increase fuel mileage...which it didn't...then a few days later i got the codes cleared and a new scan when the ses came back on and it's pointing at the rear O2. i thought maybe it had something to do with that royal purple max clean i just put in. i already had a new sensor. i was just waiting to install it with a new downpipe.
anyhow i fill it up all the way so i know the next time i fill up exactly how much fuel it used. if you just go by when the pump nozzle shuts off that's not accurate. sometimes pumps kick off when it's not even filled up, so you know that's not accurate .
