Just got the old girl back from having the tranny swapped, and the power steering is not well. Almost nothing at low speeds, but requires normal effort at highway speeds. Basically the opposite effect of Magnasteer.

    I have two questions:

    1. Is it more likely the pump or the rack? (If it is the pump, will the flush and fill and add Lucas thing work?)

    2. Is it possible the transmission shop caused this? It was perfect when I took it in, and they say it was already bad when they put it in the bay....)

i would guess the pump because if it feels fine at higher engine rpm as you say on the high way the pump is spinning faster so more flow.

they could have caused it because it they let the rack hang by the lines it could have kinked a line or made your fluid leak out.

check it for kinks and the level.
if both are good it was not them just bad timing.

I think that it's more than likely the rack. I would definitely be blaming the transmission shop.

I know for a fact they did let the rack hang, because the owner told me so. The level was fine, and is still fine. Where are the lines, so I can look for leaks? I'm not even sure where the pump is.

if you have magna steer theres a plug and wires off the driver side of the rack where the steering shaft is that leads up to the trans shifter area and plugs into a black box at the shift linkage. makes sure its plugged in, its a blue plug. also make sure its wires are not broken.
