I just purchased a 2002 GTP. It has aftermarket HID / Halo headlamps. When I switch to high beams, the Xenons go out and the high beams are dim and yellow. When I switch back to low beams, they take some time to get back to full brightness. Kinda scary since I'm in the country with lots of deer crossing the roads. Is this normal?

Yes. If these are the projectors I’m thinking about then the high beams are halogen. HIDs take time to power back on.

If you want the lights to respond faster then you would have to put halogens in the projectors.

Yes that is normal for HID lamps. The longer you have your high beams on the cooler the HIDs will get & when you switch back it will start out dimmer again like when you first turn them on. If you don't want to get rid of the HID lights perhaps a better option would be to swap out the HIDs for LEDs. If you have the spyder projectors I believe the low beam is an h1 so you would need to find that in an LED replacement. A good quality LED bulb will be just as bright and will have a much smaller ballast than the HID. I am using Sealight LED bulbs in my '15 Explorer and couldn't be happier with the light output. I've had them in two months now with no issues
