I am buying a nice 04 GP, 122k, needs an engine. It's a VIN 2 NA L26 with the steel oil pan. This is not my first swap, I've done a several cars, but not a GP. My local yards, that I use and trust, are telling me it's a one year engine. These same yards have helped me in the past with other swap advice on other vehicles, so I trust them. So my question is this- can I swap in an 05-08 NA L26 with the aluminum pan as long as I get the correct bracket for the front mount? Or are there other issues that prevent me from doing this? My yards have the aluminum pan engines but not an 04 steel pan engine. I have searched this forum and could not find an answer, so forgive me if I missed it somewhere.

Just put your steel oil pan on the newer engine, problem solved. I don't believe that the pick up tube is different but I can't remember.

Or if the yards can get you the bracket, do that.
