Time to replace broken front sway bar 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8L base model N/A.

While shopping for a sway bar, AZ states I must lower subframe to replace the swaybar, and they have suggested the subframe to body bolts are "torque - to- yield" and should be replaced when disturbed.... Like cylinder head bolts.

Can anyone confirm this and verify any bolt part numbers, aftermarket or o.e.?

Search results seem quite generic, Johnny #5 WANTS MORE INPUT!

I reused the subframe bolts on my 2005 N/A Impala when I replaced the transmission. I also replaced the swaybar because mine was cracking at the ends. I have had no problems since.

I have installed front swaybars on many GP's, and never once had to lower the subframe.
There are writeups in the "Suspension" section on how to install a swaybar. Raise the entire front end, support on jack stands, and turn the wheels to gain access for the swaybar end links to hook up on the control arm. With time and patience, it can be installed.
As for the Auto Zone employee saying that the subframe bolts need replaced, I have removed them before for transmission side cover removal and I reused those bolts. Never had any trouble with them coming loose.

I've taken those bolts out and put them back in way too many times, they're still just fine.

If you're a little worried about them backing out, put some loctite on the threads and use an impact. They will stay just fine.

I'm in the same place..never bought new bolts. Reuse the same.

As for lowering the subframe, it can be done with or without lowering it.

Exactly why I asked this question, likely a AZ/website or app problem/incorrect linked recommendation. I couldn't find anywhere else that said to change them.
I believe, I am comfortable with locktite and a torque wrench.

    Thanks for the feedback all!

dont loc tite em, and you need to just make em tight.

you dont even need to take em out all the way, just unscrew em 2 inches and lower the frame to the bolts, but leave the weight on the jack. not the loose bolts.

    Yeah..do not loctite.

I gun them on and smile. It's more torque but doesn't change anything

New John Deere green anti sway bar INSTALLED!
I was messing around and thought, let's put a bit of spray paint on the new bar, (of course can't see it unless you're under car)... And I'm a John Deere fan and thought, what the hell.... I painted the brackets JD yellow to offset. I know it won't stay pretty and I got a couple of scratches on the install.... But it looks good.

Anyway just reporting, i took y'all advice, reused the sub frame bolts and no loctite, but I did torque to factory spec 118 ft lbs (per my factory service manual).

It was a little scary, first time lowering the cradle, especially while being under it. I had jack stands for safety. But now that I know what I'm doing, its a fairly easy job.

I just wanted to say THANKS everyone for your advice and tips.

    No noise
    Job complete.

Time to have fun in the Pontiac tractor prix, i think the green paint increased the HP?

    PEACE!
