Is Bank 1 the same as upstream?
yes.
Does anyone have directions on how to change an upstream 02 sensor and is it easy to perform myself?
you'll need a deep Oxygen sensor socket that is avaialbe at the parts store, some pb blastr and patience. the last one I stated because the sensor's in the back of the motor and in a somewhat tight space. you can loosen the top/front dog bones and pull the motor towards the front to gain more space to access the sensor behind it on the rear exhaust manifold. you can use ratchet straps to hold the motor in place once its pulled towards the front. its best to also hover/be on top of the engine bay to get better leverage.
I changed the upstream sensor but the engine light went off. Do I need to clear it first ?
did the CEL went away before or after you installed the new O2 sensor?
it never went away. I was under the impression that once the new sensor was put in that over time the light would go off by itself but its been 3 days and its still on.It definitely runs better with more pickup but not sure why light is still on.
ok, the way you worded the sentence made it sound like it "went off" as in turned off. you need to do one of 2 things. 1) disconnect your battery for a few seconds to clear the code or 2) have someone clear the DTC code and put some miles on it so the pcm goes through the cycle of relearning. there is a third option which is drive with the cell on like you are now and after a few miles the pcm will relearn itself IF the O2 sensor was the culprit the light will turn off. however, my suggestion is one of the first 2.
Still getting the same P0420 code even after replacing the bank 1 O2 sensor. Do you think it could be the bank 2 sensor or catalytic converter?
Ok, new day, new problem. I get in my car this morning and only my high beams work, no low beams and they worked yesterday. Is there a fuse for this or do you think both bulbs went out at the same time?
Does your HVAC work? If not, the ignition switch is a common problem and takes out the auto on park lights, auto on headlights, HVAC and possibly some other features. This is on the 97-03 cars, and now that I'm typing this, I think the 04-08 cars have the BCM do this, so I may be babbling. LOL
HVAC works fine. I do have an 08 though.
The fog lamp/headlight switch is a known issue with the 04-08 GP's, I'd check that switch before going to the BCM.
Where is that switch located?
