My fuel gauge has been malfunctioning for the past couple years. The fuel gauge will move erratically and not follow the actual fuel level at all, though it seems that the stepper motor it self is partially working.
I replaced the fuel level sensor and the issue wasn't fixed.
I figured the next thing to repair is the stepper motor for the fuel gauge cluster since it is a well known issue with the 2004 era GM vehicles. I ordered a kit and of course, the stepper motor they sent doesn't fit (even though their description said it would). I've looked all over the web to find a stepper motor that looks like the ones on my car, but they keep showing me the same part that I already ordered that doesn't fit.
Short of replacing the stepper motor, I suppose the only other issue could be a wiring issue somewhere along the line. But when the fuel level sensor freaks out it goes straight to empty (reset/resting) so that leads me to believe the stepper motor is the issue.
Has anyone successfully replaced stepper motors for a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Comp G? If you have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix (regardless of trim) it should be the same part.
Thanks for any help!
