You're friend is likely right, aftermarket universal cats are hit and miss on if the check engine light will stay off or come back on.
They do not do as good of job as the factory converters and the computer is seeing that with the rear o2 sensor.
You're best bet right now is to try and space the o2 sensor out of the exhaust a little bit to see if the code stops.

This was on my GP when I bought it; small and universal setting P0420. The previous owner told me there might be a problem with it, and he was right, cuz he removed the CEL bulb instead of trying to fix the problem.

I installed this, and 6 years later it is still working fine.....

Yup, installed a walker cat on my sisters car last year and not a single issue yet.
Even before that I welded in a universal walker cat on the stock downpipe, not a single issue there either. Only replaced it because the rest of the pipe rotted away. I chopped the cat off and it's in the garage still waiting for something else lol.
Thank you for the advise...im so frustrated Meineke wont warranty the 500$ pos either because the pipe in back of it turned a purplish color?
Just buy this: https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...lug+non+fouler
Use a 1/2" drill bit on one of the two pieces, screw them together and insert in hole. No more code, no issues! Works like a charm.
If it won't fit, amazon and ebay has angled o2 sensor spacers. Just google. Hope this helps!
