    2005 Pontiac Grand Prix - 3800 Series 3

I lost the nut that goes on the bolt for the negative clamp. I just need to know what size the nut is so I can get some more and have some to spare. Does anyone know?

Better buy a couple if you are prone to losing things.
Only loosen it next time. You probably already figured out it was a special tapered nut for the cam style clamp. Only these will work.

How do you lose them? You're not supposed to take them off.

if you dropped it down by the belts its in the motor mount bucket. either lift the shield and paw around for it, or drop magnet on a stick down there and fish for it. every last thing i drop down there ends up next to the motor mount.

Yeah. I shouldn't have taken it all the way off. It dropped down right below where the battery sits. It's under there and I haven't had any luck fishing it out.

Update to this issue. The nut size for that funking looking clamp is M6. I went into my local hardware store and picked up a couple for a few bucks.

Yeah, but it doesn't have a tapered butt, how is it going to self-tighten?

It wont. You find out when the battery is dead.

I put a washer under mine when I first did a HID kit, battery fizzled from a loose connection.
The bevel rides the notch and pulls the clamp together when tightened, without the bevel it doesn't do $hit.

    Yeah. I think I will. I noticed that it doesn't actually self-tighten.

And if you over tighten it past 11ft/lbs, then the terminal gets permanently borked.
