    2005 Pontiac Grand Prix

This has been going on for over a month now. Whenever I crank the car, it feels like the motor turns once then stalls, then after a few seconds it'll usually crank up. Other times it'll crank right up with little to no engine stalling. I'm a little concerned about the stalling because it feels like the motor is trying to lock up. Any guesses to what could be causing this to happen?

I sometimes do minor work on my car (2001 Pontiac Grand Am) so I already have an OBD 2 scanner. When I scanned this cars ECU it gave me these errors:

sounds like its time for a new battery, or at min get it tested.

those codes are not related, but get to fixing them.

We did discuss the battery but I have yet to test it with my multimeter. I sure hope that's all it is.

you need a load tester, hit up a parts store, autozone is free for the test. make sure they test volts car off, car at idle, then load test it.

your alt could also be going bad and not putting out a full charge to the battery making it weaker. same test will tell you whats up.

and you 04 up guys got some funky neg cable clamp, that things always suspect.

You could use a throttle body cleaning and get some MAF cleaner spray while your there(parts store).
If you haven't done this yet, you need to. It could be your starting problem.

I'm going to say battery also, exactly what my 06 did when battery was on it's way out. Dirty throttle body is an issue on the 04+ but it will crank just fine just no start when that's going on.

It could be a fueling issue. Try priming the pump once or twice before cranking, see if that changes anything.

Ok. Yeah. It was most definitely the battery! Put in a new one and it fires up right away. Thanks, guys!

One last question... The bolt that goes on the negative clamp...Exactly what size is it? I lost it while swapping batteries.

if you dropped it down by the belts, id bet you money its sitting in the motor mount bucket. anything i drop ends up there, i drop down a magnet on a flex stick and fish stuff out all the time.

Ok. I'll see if I can fish it out with a magnet.
