Completely new to this. But judging by the forced induction world i've jumped into... one of these will be highly necessary in the coming years, mods and fun to come.

On a budget, but not horribly tight.

HP Tuner, buy it new. one of my top 3 mods ever. either get the basic one for 500 or the Pro version for 679. they both have their advantages.

You gotta pay to play... That said, you'll fiind the Poniac not terribly expensive to mod!

best power for the money - Turbo
best backup mod for power - Built Trans
    best tuner - HP Tuners
best money saver after modding - Radar Detector!

    read the modding 3800 thread...
make a plan, read some more, revisit the plan, but have a plan before you start modding

    Cheap/Fast/Reliable
you can have only two at a time, chose wisely ; )

when new they come with so many credits, used will have the credits used up and you end up sometimes needing to buy more credits to tune your own car.

used is worth it sometimes too. not a big deal.

depending on year and engine, you can try to find a DHP, its for v6 only, and only up to 05. its a older tuner but gets the job done, its what i and many others use. its just not as fancy as HP tuner.

98 Buick Regal GS, F body brakes, Caddy STS wheels, tinted tails L36 bottom end, lightly ported heads, 1.95 roller rockers, headers, gen 5 N* 3.0 pulley, FSIC, 42 lb injectors, a BrandonHall rebuilt trans, DHP tuned and AEM water/Meth injection https://goo.gl/gpV5kW

they hold up really well, like Scotty said, they come with credits, and when you buy a used one some of the credits are used, so you might save 100 bucks initially but if it doesn't have any credits, they it's not doing you any good. they rarely sell for less than 300 and when they do, they usually have no credits, so you are really only saving 100 dollars, and if you tune 2 cars then it's not saving you anything.
