This is my first post, I hope I'm putting it in the correct spot.

Here is my initial problem. In my 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Daytona 500, there is dual climate control (automatic/digital) and on the passenger side the AC blows nice cold frigid air but the driver's side blows luke warm/ cool air at best. So I did some research and discovered that I may have a bad blend door actuator. I got a replacement actuator but when I finally got the thing removed I found that the original actuator was functioning just fine. So I figured that it must be the blend door itself. When I reached up into the tight spot to turn the knob controlling the blend door it was very stiff. Initially it seemed pretty well stuck in a vertical position. After freeing up the knob I was able to get about an eighth of a turn before I encountered a bit of resistance again. Watching my actuator turn I see that it takes about a quarter of a turn to get from the digital setting of 60F to 90F. To complete the rest of the turn is very difficult, actually impossible to fully complete the turn by my calculation (sight). After calling the GM dealership they told me that HVAC distribution box may need to be changed, "over time the distribution box may become warped and cause the blend door to rub against it" causing the aforementioned and unwanted resistance.

Where is the HVAC distribution box? Is it extremely difficult to replace? Any pictures or diagrams would be helpful.

Could there be any other explanation or possible fixes?

On my car, (2000GTP) , I know that when the drivers side a/c vent is not as cold as the rest of the vents (passenger side), it low on feon, usually a few oz. is all it needs to bring it back nice and cold.

Check and make sure you have good charge of Freon.

I've already put in a 20 oz can of AC Pro R-134a, when adding the Freon the pressure only changed about 4 psi. I don't want to overcharge the system and damage my compressor. I've got more Freon but this problem has been persistent, been professionally recharged once and home recharged twice in the last 3 or 4 years. Had the problem "diagnosed" by 4 places and no one has given me good information. The very first place I took the car, charged the AC and wanted 400 bucks to chase wires (no thanks), I changed the external temp sensor which was malfunctioning for 13 bucks and did what he was going to do for 400. 1 place said my compressor wasn't getting power the next said it was.

you are pretty much taking the dash out to change the hvac box. the heater core is also inside it.

mine also sticks, pass side, so its easier to work on, but i used pliers, worked it back and fourth a bunch, then sprayed it with wd-40, worked it a bunch more, re spray, work it, you get the idea, till it moved freely, easy enough to do by hand. last time i did this it lasted 4 years, so it lasts a while. just had to break it free this summer once again.

and your right, it only moves about a 1/4 turn back and fourth. so dont try to make it go further then it will allow.
