My LCD screen went out in my original stereo. I was going to install an aftermarket one, but got thinking...can I just go to a local you pull and pull one out of another car that works? Are there any anti theft issues with doing this?

only if the previous owner activated theft lock before it was removed from the car.
if you do get a locked HU you can unlock it

A you pull head unit allows for plug and play, but I won't know if that LCD works or not until after purchase and installation. Now there's the locked issues. Might be worth it to just install the aftermarket head unit I have.

The Stock displays are simply backlit with small light-bulbs. Assuming the display itself is ok, but partially blank or dark, it's not too difficult the solder in replacement bulbs. There is a post around here somewhere...

I remember I Googled it and it brought me to a link here. The LCD works but yes, the bulb is blown. In addition, I have cracked the plastic screen because one day it flickered so I did the old hit it trick.

I'd get a Junk Yard replacement and steal the bulbs and screen. On '04+, I know the radios are locked to the VIN. I always hate losing the chimes, and the HUD info swapping in an aftermarket unit.

That bulb is super easy to replace. No soldering involved. Twists out, and new one twists in. Can be purchased at the link below, or at your GM dealer.

Wow that's pricey for 3 little led bulbs.
