So if I had to replace the GP I would look at the Chevy SS. V8 into an Impala. This is last year they are / were being produced. I think the last one rolled off production line already. Almost all the reviews I read are very positive. May hold it's value well similiar to G8 GXP. Limited quantity made and not many are aware of what a good value they seem to be.
Chevy SS and G8 GXP are overrated. For that kind of money you could jump into a G8 GT or a 2nd gen CTS-V and have money to mod a little. Or go sleeper and find a Caprice PPV.

Go for one with an engine upgrade such as a Grand Prix GTP or GXP. If you're looking for a change in body style, you could probably get a GTO or a Solstice GXP in that price range. Keep Pontiacs around, you could probably fix up your current GP for much less.

Having driven Grand Prix's over the past 18 years, I continue to be impressed with the build quality, performance and reliability. If I had to replace the GP I have now, I would buy another 6th Generation GP. I am surprised to find so many still available for sale with less than 50,000 miles. Even more with less than 80,000 miles, which is not major mileage

I can somewhat agree with the performance and reliability, but build quality is not something you associate with Grand Prix's.

I'm holding onto mine until it rusts in half... it's cheap to keep it on the road, and easy to keep it looking good.

Can't ask for much else in a daily driver.

For a daily driver are there any known issues with the GP? Especially the last gen. I wouldn't count the "weak" tranny because daily drivers aren't out there pounding and racing theirs.

I hear of many people putting 200k+ miles on their GPs while having little to do beyond usual wear and tear maintenance. This has been the case with my 04, though I only hage 120k on it. No issues outside normal maintenance (knock on wood).

What would I replace my grand Prix with........... any GM car with a 3800 engine, supercharged or not, take your pick...... shouldn't be hard to find a low mileage buick lesabres 00-05 and the same for those years impala's. But a 06-08 low mileage grand Prix would do nicely. Though those lesebres are not sporty looking, they are reliable.

Sadly i must agree on the interior build quality. With my brother's Grand Prix the dreaded power windows have been replaced to many times to count and the A/C went out 2 or 3 times and my grandma bought it new, But mechanically, like a rock.

"Heck yours with 118K is almost new. You can get over 300K out of them."

If one with 118k is almost new then what is mine with only 45k on it?

It is mainly the fit and finish of the interiors that average people seem to complain about the most. Because lets be honest they are pretty crappy.

I know this is kind of off topic, but I would really like to see one of these manufacturers pull their heads out of their asses and actually make a V8 that gets more than 20mpg without having to use this active fuel management crap.

The Chevy SS is rated 14 city / 22 highway. I don't think it has active fuel management but not positive. Def a sleeper type car as hardly anyone knows about them outside people really into cars.

I know this is a pretty old thread I'm replying to, but I'm just killing time wandering around older threads here and figure I'll add my two cents. I'd rate the GP as good design, overall medium quality, and especially lacking in interior quality. Mine has 250K on it now, but it has, literally, been 100% rebuilt mechanically, from one end to the other. With that, it drives like a brand new car, and still looks good, but I'm somehow able to keep cars looking good way beyond their years.

As for what I'd replace it with, that would be a real sports car. I got the GP because I have two kids and wanted a good driving car with a real back seat. It turns out, the back seat in the GP sucks, at least by my kid's evaluation, and their opinion counts. They much, way, extremely prefer my Tahoe, so the three of us all ride around in that, and the GP is what I drive when I'm alone. If it's only going to be me, or me and one other person, why not get a real performance car and screw the back seat idea?

Still have the 04 comp for a couple years until my son acquires it.
    I got a good deal. 2008, 535XI, 85,000 miles for 12k.
Remainder of an extended warranty until 100K or 2020.
Cold weather, premium and sport packages. Dude had the stock wheels painted by a shop. Eventually they will be winter wheels.

Even has HUD and a crap load of wheel gap.
Now I just have to spend some time detailing it.

Damnnn spazz. Nice BMdub. Looking sharp. Sounds like a good deal for sure. Probably fun as hell to drive. Rear wheel gap seems extra gapped. How are those things to work on? Wrenching it yourself after the 100k?

after I got rid of my purple gtp, picked up a Jeep JK that was lifted. drove that for a bit but realize I don't offroad as much as I wanted to plus mpg was in the 13-14 in mix city/highway sold that and picked up a 03 vibe gt and currently enjoying it! maintenance and drivability is decent. plastic interior but I'm ok with it, it gets the job done commuting to work plus it's peppy to boot. I still have the Camaro in the garage anyways. also picked up a 04 Honda element ex for snowy weather.
