My pontiac 2005 Grand Prix Car is throwing codes. The engine just dies DIC say lose communication with throttle body. The car dying has only happened 5 times in the past week in half. But Once trying to cross a busy high speed intersection. So I am driving a death machine as of now.

the research I have done is discussing ECM is going bad. Local Place quoted roughly 1,000 dollars to replace this thing.

The car is only worth maybe 1500.

Is there cheaper after market or GM replacement PCM, ECM, How do they get flashed? Any place recommended to get one of these ECM, PCM from already flashed?

    Thoughts.

    Thanks for the help

pcm is something you can change on your own, theres ebay stores that sell pcm and load your vin# so you pass inspection. last i seen em going for about 175.

you can also hit a local junk yard and buy a pcm from a car thats the same year and model, it will work, but your vin will be wrong. so no inspection, this is your cheap way, pcm's run about 40 or so at the junk yard. or just used off ebay with no vin update.

Sounds similar symptoms to a bad ignition control module ICM that I had once. Ran great and then would just die all of a sudden. Swap in a temp hood one to test if you have access to one.

Thanks for all of the feedback.

The PCM is under or around the Airbox correct?

I do not mind spending some cash to get a good PCM with a correct vin and miles

    Thanks again for the feedback.

its inside the air box, yours has three plugs on it, you lift the lever up and wiggle it off, they only fit where they go, so you cant mix them up at all.

im supposed to be getting a couple delivered here soon but i dont think i can change the vin#. if you dont care about the vin # matching i could even make it a canned tuned.

I would suggest buying a performance PCM from ZZPerformance. They are only $250 and you get $125 back if you send in your old PCM. After installing the new one, you would most likely have to do a security relearn, which is very easy.
