Can anyone tell me how to test a block heater cord with the new style plug that does nothing till it reaches -18 C or 0 F. With the old ones you could check the resistance across the two sides, but can you still do that with the new ones. Also someone on this forum suggested that the block heater was behind the starter, is this still the case for a 2007 3.8.

best to follow the cord, if installing one the front (rad side) is the easy side to work on.

It might have to be below zero to test the circuit because that's when it would be working but I'm not 100% sure on that.

I always mod the plug to make them work whenever I want it too. Remove the circle cap and break the thermostat things out of there, then solder a piece a wire across the two pieces of metal and it'll complete the circuit all the time.

And yes the heater plug should still be installed new the starter with the cord running up by the air box.
