I love my magnasteer. It randomly makes my car act like it has no power steering when Im trying to park and makes no noticeable difference any other time. Thanks GM!

Acording to the article, sounds like its not working properly. I know I have been working for GM for 28.7 yrs, trust me our quality is is much improving.

This post is old, but it's perfect for a question I have. I'm about to replace the rack and pinion and I wouldn't attempt to try it myself. I found a reputable local garage that charges a little north of $300 for labor and takes my part (no mark up - how nice and honest is that). looked for part prices and they are insane but from one seller (Detroit Axle) who gives a lifetime warranty on a "remanufactured" rack and pinion (the warranty is activated after shipping the old part to them in Detroit and they pay for that shipment!). their price is about $120 which is very cheap but it's without "magnasteer".

What do you nice people think?

no way id use detroit axle.

get one from your local napa. i got mine on sale for 160. its a reman but it works.

and a rack swap is not to hard either, a few hours work and your done. no special tools needed either. only odd ball tool is a 18 mm open wrench or a line wrench is best,

Thank you sir. So, "Detroit Axle" is a famous name for failure?

The problem with me doing it myself right now is because I don't have a garage to do it because I'm temporarily living in an apt. where it's not really convenient to do a relatively advanced job in a parking spot behind the building. Is the $300 labor for an 08 grand prix base a good price?

napa is a couple of miles from me and has it for $180 but they, too, don't mention anything related to "magnasteer"!!!

Do you know if they deliver a big part like that for free to a local mechanic?

the listing will say something like "w/magnasteer."

if you call or go to the local store they can help better.

Magnasteer is pointless in my eyes.

I've driven plenty of w-body's with and without it and I don't see a major difference at all.

That doesn't change my opinion on it, it still doesn't matter if it has it or not to me.

I've owned 3 full sized trucks since my grand prix, I guess I'm use to actually using my arms to control the vehicle I guess.

Maybe it doesn't have it. Mine doesn't have it. Have you even looked under the car to see if you have a plug in on the rack?
