you need to wet sand the whole bumper first, so it has fine scratches in the paint so the new paint has some thing to bite on to.

you can see the scuffing in this pic. dont go nuts on the edges or hard corners. once sanded/scuffed you need to use some kind of prep spray or cleaner, dont touch it with bare hands after its been wiped down.

front bumper i just cleared it and called it good. the rear i wet sanded the clear and buffed it to a shine.

I've got everything already primed. The front bumper and fenders are brand new with primer coat so I just light sanded the primer coat and called it good on those. The skirts n door panels I had to bondo up and sand/primer filler several times before they came out good and also light sanded the primer coat. I planned on just using dawn and a clean towel to clean and prep for paint. How are you posting those photos like that scotty? Are you just reducing the fie size so it will fit in the post?

host your pics on line somewhere, photobucket or the likes. then copy the pics url addy and past it in insert image icon, 3 rd from the right in the reply window, in the pop up window, click the url tab, uncheck the box to make th epic large.

i used duplicolor prep spray, but you cant use it on new paint or it takes it off.

i primed the back bumper cause i did a lot of repair work to it. didnt sand it, painted right over then the clear, let it cure a few days, then wet sand with 2500 paper and buff with compound to a shine.

back was like this when i got it.

    progress

    paint and clear.

    wet sanded

    and buffed

Yea that's how I pretty much planned on doing it paint wise. I just resized some images I took off my phone n saved them to my one drive. When I get home tonight I'm going to try n pull them up on my computer n copy past from my one drive since the file sizes are correct now. My phones not letting me drag n click

I don't know how you've never heard of Plastikote brand paint. It's been around forever.

I'm used to buyin my paint from painters supply and they don't carry that brand. This is my first build where I've bought most of the parts online. My build is more in a sense like scottys build where its done on a tight budget but still taking my time to get it done right

The only comparison I've done is just a spray test. I ripped out my hood liner and as everyone knows its not painted under there. So I bought a can of the duplicolor exact match and it seemed to be pretty dang close - without the clear coat. Now after seein scottys photos with only resprayin the bumpers, his metallic black seems to be a dead ringer
