Thread: How to remove roof rails ??

Hey guys just got a parts car 40th anniversary..how can I remove the roof rails without damaging them??

Pry up from the rear but go slow so you don't warp them, best to let sit in sun all day. Then to remove your stock ones do the same but don't be as gentle no way in hell you're saving those....!

Heat gun and pry slowly ?? Ahaha think maybe that should work?

Okay, I'll try hair dryer first and go from there..so start from the back then?

Take a putty knife, bend it 90* in a bench vise, then grind it to a 1/2" size triangle. Sharpen like a knife. Stick it under the back of the rail and wiggle the knife. It'll cut right through the double sided tape. I feel bad for anyone that finds the set I put on...windshield urethane was used.

Oh yeah that's the next question lol what can I use to stick them on my car?

Thanks guy for all the info! My 40th parts car is sittin in the garage waiting to be torn down lol if you know of anyone wanting a 3800 n/a 180,000 miles or 40th interior just send them my way

To be an echo in the room you'd want to go from end to end wiggling on it and find where it's most loose and find small flat object, I used a small screw driver, and very carefully wiggle the screw driver in a prying motion and it should come up at that point a little, then you carefully pry the rest of it off making sure your not warping the plastic as it comes off. It is only held on by some double sided tape so minimal force is necessary. Hope this helps.

Update! Got them off, let it sit in the sun for a while and just a screw driver and slowly and very carefully pulled them up
