I wish I had the confidence to swap out the engine and trans. Just for shceets and giggles how hard is it to do? Would you guys recommend it for someone who's only replaced simple parts such as brakes, hub assemblies water pump, nothing major hence my hesitation. I think I read somewhere it's about a 15 hr job. How hard is it?
It's not hard hell Bills outlined it for you to take the guess work out of it. Spent about 3 hrs today with a buddy getting mine ready to be pulled and it's just about pulled

bill the guy who did the how to there, he can do a swap in like 3 hours, but hes got many under his belt.
me, ive done engine swaps in the past, but never a fwd, took me most of one day to pull it, another day back in and running. working all by myself mind you, not a helping hand in sight. so i got to play tool fetcher for myself even.
then 4 days fixing a oil leak, but thats another story lol
I need this to come out perfect. Im definitely not the candidate, not enough time or tools. So here's the new question how much is too much when paying for a swap? So far my best quote is 1 grand :/
thats about right for a engine and tranny swap, 500 each with fluids
engine hoists run like 150. your time is free, you need very little more tool wise then a 30 piece socket set. the tranny thread has a tool list just like the engine thread.
Aren't certain calibration instruments needed to insure things are right?
You make it sound doable and perhaps it maybe for me but unfortunately I don't have a reliable helper who would know what they're doing.unless it's really straight forward steps I just see it as a big time job but the possibility of saving a grand..
Yah the left over dex in the cooling system left behind weird crystallized crap in some areas probably what that pink **** is
having an extra set of hands help, mostly aligning the trans and motor together. Other then that, just time and patience
i jacked up the tail shaft of the tranny, then set the leveler up on the engine, lifted the engine a bit and it came a part like butter. left the jack in place and left the leveler the same, bolted it on the same way, and the engine was lowered in and connected in like 5 minutes with a wiggle or two only. i was amazed lol
Leveler worth it? I bought one just in case but started to think ehhh I rather have my $35 back lol
Check Craigslist for a hoist you can usually grab one for under/around $100, usually guys doing the same thing having to do a swap, they buy one from HD then sell it after, but you can get one now on sale for $130ish. A buddy of mine picked up a old 2 ton somewhat rusted one (surface rust) on Craigslist for $20, jack was screwed up, I stopped by harbor freight and bought a new jack for $40 installed it and bam works good as new and saved me from having to buy a hoist I had no room to store. It stays outside but each time after use the hydraulic jack is removed. Saving yourself $1k is worth doing it yourself imo.
Ill be looking through some vids today hoping to find encouragment. You guys really make it seem like i can do it. If there was anything that can go wrong or a part of the swap that is most difficult what would tou guys say it is?
My nerves get edgy just thinking about doing it myself ha, but really, I know this a pretty common engine so there's plenty of info. Wish I had a dam forklift now THAT must make pulling and setting a breeze
