Re: Another GM recall for 3800 engine fire
Just got my recall notice last week, I'm taking my plastic cover off before I take it in.

They just don't care anything about their customers lives. This was unheard of until today's time. All they care about is the mean dirty green(dollar bill y'all).
Ever heard of the Corvair?

Here are a few of the best ones from over the years..... 1978 Ford Pinto, 69-71 GM engine mounts, 78-80 Ford F-series and so on.
It is cheaper for these companies to pay out a few court cases than pay out for recalls. They WILL ALWAYS lay low until they are forced to do otherwise.
I have never had a car with so many problems or so many recalls than from today's cars, especially endangering people lives and the maker just keeps ignoring it with temporary fixes, this is what i speak of. I didn't say cars of the past had no problems ever. Today just look at all the lives these cars are taking or endangering due to unsafe vehicles and the makers know it, but are only interested in how much they can make. Read thoroughly first before responding wrongly

It's a complex machine with literally hundreds of different parts that could fail and leave you in danger. On top of that, it's at least 8 years old.
So yeah, thank God everytime you make it home safe and get over it.

I had my car at a friend's shop. He was doing some work for me and did the VCs because they were leaking badly. I take it to the GMC dealer in town to get the reimbursement for the front VC and labor. GM wanted to replace it anyway and they put this short oil filter cap on.http://imgur.com/yCUiYbc

Never had a car with so many problems? You haven't had many cars then. I must admit that my GP is one of the best cars I have ever had.
I have been in the automotive industry for almost 30 years now, and trust me, what you see now is no different from the past/present/future. The only thing is that in this day and age, you hear more about it, and of course we have more vehicles on the road. This is how it is and will be probably for the rest of our time.
To me, this recall is a joke. Of course a leaking valve cover can cause a fire. How many POS vehicles are on the road with leaking valve covers? And never have fires? Keep your vehicle maintained and you won't have fire!
And sorry I mis-interpreted your statement of " This was unheard of until today's time". Seems like I read and replied correctly from this side of the screen. Thanks for making it clear what you meant the second time around. :p

Ya, they can't reimburse, unless they get very creative, which most of them don't want to do.
I have fairly fresh v/c gaskets and no leaks, yet I will have to get GM to do the work if I want them off my back.
Re: Another GM recall for 3800 engine fire
My GMC dealer reimbursed me for larbor, parts, and tax. I was very happy with how they treated me and my car.

Endangering lives how? You mean like Toyota's "unintended acceleration" that turned out to be user error 99.999999% of the time, but that wasn't covered by the media. Or GM's ignition issue? People need to learn what to do in case when situations arise while on the road. The problem is people panic and make bad decisions that could cost them their own lives, or worse yet someone else's.

No doubt.
If the problem truly is the OE valve cover, how come my Fel-Pro v/c gaskets haven't leaked yet after 3 years? Huh? GM? Answer that? LOL

It was worth it for me to go. The check is in the mail. 2-4 weeks
Re: Another GM recall for 3800 engine fire
Now let's see if my local dealer will do the same, what all did you have to do.

is that the new valve cover too?
Re: Another GM recall for 3800 engine fire
I might just do that stop buy when I get a chance and show that the recall was already done by me
Re: Another GM recall for 3800 engine fire
Yes that is another new VC. I took my proof of repairs to the dealer. Along with the reimbursement forum in the recall. That I filled out. A very nice lady in the service bay wrote up the recall and reimbursement forum the dealership had.
Re: Another GM recall for 3800 engine fire
so the new one is black,,,thats cool all ill have to do is mask off the top raised part and paint the rest yellow so it matches what i got now.

Wait..., how does this reimbursement work? I did my VC gaskets and grommets over the summer, and did my brother's Regal this winter.
Never-mind, thread reading blindness, lol. So, we both have our original VC covers, they gonna want to replace those with the new ones?
