Okay, just because I'm sick of people dicking around in the FS section, I would like to suggest requiring a piece of paper or signature of some sort and the date with the picture of the item(s) for sale.

Thoughts? I really believe it would prevent a lot of scamming as there are tons of pictures scattered around the internet of just about every part one could imagine. Especially the relatively new people with 50 posts and no reputation, whatsoever.

    Like so:

I don't know, maybe it's just me finding a way to ***** about petty ****.

I've never put a piece of paper in my sales threads and never scammed a single person. I've also only been close to being scammed once.

Can't someone scam you with a piece of paper in a picture or say photoshopping it in there? I'm just tossing a couple ideas in there.

I would gear that toward newer members. For guys and girls that have been here for awhile and post count is decent I wouldn't worry so much about it . After all you should be using Paypal to make purchases.

Let's look at a few approved vendors that hosed members here and other forums. TDC comes to mind. Established, etc etc... Always use the tools you can to protect yourself is my motto.

True I remember that. Mini chopper and TDC IIRC.

Then again when I see little effort being taken by someone trying to sell something I usually pass.

I appreciate the response, Bill. And as far as YOU scamming someone or Dave or Nick or someone, you guys are all well known enough on the forum for having a great reputation. I'm sure that's not something worth making a few bucks of a scam. I more so think it would be helpful when dealing with people that aren't so well known just as a small line of defense.

Selling items over the interenet will never be 100% scam free. However, I do believe that anything that helps or prevents it in any manner should be implemented as a precaution.

This is not to throw out an accusation that every new member is shady, because at one point or another, we were all new. But, there are those grimy people out there looking to screw someone out of $50.

When I'm leary of someone..I ask for more pictures. And ask for certain angles etc. Like a cam. Please show me a couple pics up close of the lobes and bearing surfaces.

I'm not against putting some type of verification there, just leary of how we can know for sure. Even if they did give verification, who says they send it out, vs sell on another forum?

Agreed. When I find something f/s that I want I usually looking at the s/n first and see if I recognize it. If I do and you seen to be a household name I usually buy right then and don't ask for any pictures etc. After all most of us shop on here to save money instead of paying vendors or b/s dealership prices so there's always going to be that chance you'll be scanned in attempt to save a few bucks.

Fair enough. But there will always be the risk of getting scammed whenever buying ANYTHING over the internet regardless of the source (i.e. Amazon, eBay, Craigslist, what have you.)

However, this does not imply that one should simply just stop purchasing over the internet. Every little bit of security helps when handling a transaction electronically.

This exactly. If one was really eager and willing to get something sold, they would take the extra minute (quite literally) and write their name and date on a piece of paper. It requires minimal effort but could probably prevent much of the problems that occur. If one has a problem with doing so, then they obviously don't care about making a sale.

We will never know for sure. But as it stands, we have fairly minimal security (post count and one picture, I believe?) when it comes to selling items. If it is strictly enforced (i.e. thread locked immediately after not seeing a verification picture) then I do believe it would help in a relatively positive manner.

Like I said, buying over the internet will never be a scam-free process, but every little bit to prevent them is a step in the right direction. It should remain a heavily moderated area of the forum. It's different than someone trolling on a thread asking about HID's and VHT. This is pertinent to someone's REAL, hard-earned money. That is hardly an area of forum that should be left any sort of flexibility or laxness. Not by any means saying you and all of the other mod's do that by any means. I'm sorry, no one ****s with my money.

The only scamming I recall ever seeing on here was some guy who "sold" the same radar detector like 13 times like two years ago. And he was using stock photos I think. Have I been missing a bunch more scams on here?

Isn't think a no-no per the rules now?
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

Likely it is.. lol If it is...someone may or may not tell me that is it.

Stuff is in my garage, I could take the pics and sell as my own, then hand him the money just as easily.

Yeah I've seen this on other forums. Thought about us doing it here, but it annoyed the piss out of me when I had to do it.

That rule has been in effect since day 1. I didn't add it.

I like this idea, which is why the items I have for sale right now have MY GPF sticker in the shot. I have sold lots of things on CL, I like selling things in person.

So, did this topic slip through the cracks or is it a plausible option?
