This VigLink crap is annoying and intrusive. It needs to go away.

On other forums its either completely disabled, or you are able to disable it in you usercp/settings, but is still visible to unregistered guests.

Are you really complaining about something that is bringing the site money?

Servers ain't free and the site wasn't getting much in monthly donations.

The site has a large amount of sponsors which I am sure more than pays for webspace. I belong to a much smaller forum that only has actual community vendors, and no generic vendors filling gaps. It makes what it needs and then some off of just that without the need for VigLink. The Site owner puts any profit right back into the community too.

You sir are wrong. Rocket has mentioned many times that he pays a lot for this site out of his own pocket.

I don't beleive that one bit, especially knowing what the site owner charges for sponsorship on the site I mentioned. Its just as nice as this forum, but with a much smaller member base.

You realize the more posts that exist, the larger the server space has to be right? This site archives everything IIRC so it can be found via google and search and referenced later. It has nothing to do with the layout of the site. Every pixel you use with every letter you type is another bit of storage on the server being used. If you've never purchased server space, you should google what it costs.

The other forum has 144000 post in just over 16 months of existance, has a gallery, a garage, an arcade, a chatbox, etc. The owner only charges a few hundred per year for sponsorship and only has about 12 sponsors (ALL COMMUNITY RELATED), yet still doesnt need to resort to VigLink to make money.

You know, you can get a free forum that costs $10 a year if you want it to be ad-free for members, and it only makes guests see ads for ANYTHING. Plus, a top level domain is only like $15 a year also, which includes masking so you can redirect to the free url but it still shows as whateverthedomainis.com. I'm just saying, forums are very very very inexpensive nowadays, and I also don't believe for one second that all this ad revenue is necessary.

So unless Rocket is making a retarded decision by having a dedicated 100mbps internet line to his house and hosting the server himself, there is no way in hell it can cost very much to host this site. Sorry, but that's just the plain truth. $120 a year MAXIMUM, and that's being generous. Anything more and he's getting ripped off.

Sorry you don't like it but its here to stay. I guess i am getting ripped off I honesty have a really good deal. I shopped all around. this server cost 534 dollars a month to keep on. No things like this can't be ran in my basment with a dsl line. 120 dolllars a year for hosting? This site almost needs a 2nd slave just for the mysql db. I am out of pocket every month on this site. But yet some of you feel its ok to give me crap for trying to make ways to pay for the site. Because people where not donating 1/4 of what it cost when i had that on here. This really agravates the crap out of me that some of you are moaning. As i am out hundreds every month but yet many of the people have never threw a dime my way for keeping this site up. Only take the time to try and rip me up. Many sites this size charge 200-300 a month for vendors. You know what.. many of the ones are here pay little to nothing. As small start ups can't afford that. 90% of the vendors on here work out of there house They don't run 2-3 million a year like the other grandprix shops do. If you have not noticed the big places dont' even come on here.

I keep this sit going for love of the grand prix and all the friends i have on here etc. But some of you guys
My EX wifes other car is a broom.

Just for the record I never said DSL line, I said dedicated 100mbps line, which is typically LAN speed, not WAN speed, and faster than 99% of what people have at their homes. Who is your host if you don't mind me asking? And the size of the database and server specs?

I only want to add that the YouTube links do not work on tapatalk because of the vglink thingy. I understand its needed to continue operating the site, but I was also wondering if there's a way to set it up in a way that is also compatible with tapatalk.
