I have an answer to this...

EDIT: GO FURTHER DOWN TO MY NEXT CHAT POST AND CHECK THAT OUT!

Moderators, LMK what you think. Just like IRC, I can assign various levels of "bangsticks" as needed *LOL* Mods can catch me on AIM/YIM with the same screen name.

I'm signing in on the desktop in my house with unccjester2017 (The number might change) to keep a "SuperOwner" in there at all times - it's like IRC, but with more and less functionality all at the same time. I may be gone, so don't expect a response from that name, as I rarely sit at that PC

that may cover the problem of bandwidth, but that still doesnt cover some of the other concerns, such as having someone in there at all times to police the area, nor does it cover potential important information/fixes that won't be cataloged by the board for future reference. (obviously if it was deemed important, a post could be made, but that's assuming that those writing it would realize that it's important information that someone might find useful later)

This may be a good answer to the question here, though it would seem they have the port for the chat room blocked here at work...at least on this particular chat site. But Toasty does still have a good point with regards to keeping all the good info on the site.

With regards to someone moderating the chat, Im not sure what could be done about that other than to maybe get one of the moderators from here and see if they would be willing to help. But that would be something we could look into. Its atleast a step forward on what appeared to be a dead issue, so I'll roll with it for now.

The object of a chatroom is different than that of a forum. It will always be a seperate entity, so yes, it will be up to someone to write a fix found in talking on a chatroom.

This is a free chat that is wide open - I'm not sure HOW you could expect someone to be in there to police that chat or ANY chat at all times, as the moderators DO have to sleep - and of course there will be trolls that will come into a chat when they know the moderators are not in there, b/c they already have no life and watch for it. *LOL*

This thread is looking for an online chat, and I'm trying to provide, if nothing else, a temp-to-perm solution for that. (Objectively speaking, not trying to be snotty), it's better than nothing, so give it a try.

We already see that a chat attached to the site will be too much of a bandwidth hog once the site grows, so we can all see that it won't really be an option, and we have to deal with the limitations of the leftover options.

What WOULD help the Buzzen chatroom is for everyone to sign up with the exact same screen name as they have on here, so we can all cross-check the website if we don't know someone and know whether or not to ignore them. This is also classified as an unlisted chatroom, so someone would have to type in the exact name of the chatroom by pure chance to even find it without coming here first.

I personally would be willing to give this a look. We would have to work out some details to help keep the community safe, but we can hammer those things out.

I'm sure everyone appreciates your willingness to put up the chat room and host it for everybody, i just wasnt thinking that it would be well utilized, (and could be a hassle), but maybe it'll be helpful. let's hope it goes well!

Ok, can buzzen chat...I've just found a much better solution.

Synthetic and I may be onto something with a much better solution - he may be creating a section where registered users can go for the chat info...we'll see as thiings develop...

I havent forgot about the idea, just havent had a lot of time to do much about it. Thanks for bringing the thread back up though. I think its something we may be able to do if we plan and schedule right.

Thats one of the reasons I would like to see it. However we want the chat area to be as family friendly as the forum itself so I think we would need some sort of staff in there when it is in operation so as to keep things moderated well. Perhaps find someone that is on the board pretty frequently and see if they would want to do that or maybe a couple people to do so.

That really is one of my bigger concerns for the chat. But I really think it would be useful for such situations as you mentioned. Im open to ideas, but dont expect lightning fast movement because I really feel the need to be cautious with this and do it right.

how about a sticky thread where you can submit your aim , yahoo or msn and anyone can reach you, if they become a problem or whatever trouble it may cause then you just block the person? I for one don't use any of those, but whomever wants to talk to me has my cell! LOL (if you dont have it and want it, pm me, I might give it to you!)

Curtis thats another fine idea as well actually. I would feel better if we laid down some very clear cut rules for that though. I dont mind people IM'ng me either at all. But when Im at work I may not be able to respond at all sometimes or at the very least very slowly. But it would have to be an individual decision to participate in such a program. But I like the idea actually.

It would have to be equally as clear though, as you mentioned that if one became a nuisance that they would be permanently blocked and I think to further that along maybe in the same place that the screen names are placed we could keep a list of people blocked and for what reason. I think that would help curb any abuses.
