I was surfing the web trying to learn some computer thing when I stumbled on a computer forum. What I really liked about it is that after a tread got to be so old say three months it gets automatically locked. You can still read it but you can't make random posts two years after the fact. I think this would be a good thing to implement because then people would be making their own posts which would make a lot of people on here much happier. Just thought I would share that idea and see what you guys think

sometimes...SOMETIMES..bringing back that old thread isnt that bad so long as it's a question pertaining to the subject. sometimes it's nicer than having to have another thread pop up on the same issue, but a slightly different question.

i get what you're saying that it would be nice, but having old threads being able to be revived does have its purpose.

it would be nice if there were a way to validate a resurrection, like it had to be approved if the thread was more than a few months old. that would stop all the useless revivals and yet allow the ones with actual questions to be allowed.

^^true - nothing quite like a 3 year-old thread about "What do you think of my new rims?" resurrected with a mammoth "I like them." post.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am...

...this can be done. Unfortunately, the best way to do it would be to let some weirdo (like me, but probably not me) have administrative access to the board code... On the other hand, a somewhat competent administrative user (or someone really, really good at following fairly simple directions) could just insert code written and tested on said weirdo's own board.

i have seen that auto lock feature but the idea of bringing a useful thread back is perfectly normal

XPZ, Alum heads,150#, I/C, GEN V mps 3.0, N* TB CAI K&N fully built trans, JE pistons, L32 rods, Comp lifters, PRJ Fuel rails, 65# Injectors, elec pump, MSD wires, MSD coils, Alum control arms, AGX, vogtland, GMPP sway bars, rear trailing arms

I'm on a forum that does that. After a certain amount of time, threads become locked, and the post box's all say "Contact an Administrator if you wish to creat a post" or something like that.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only spelling bee champ on here.
To your second point, a locked thread should still show up in a search; only the ability to comment is limited.

This is really what I was going for. this way they would hopefully research their problem then once they have a intelligent question they would be able to word it in an appropriate way so that we could answer it easier instead of being like how the hell does that relate to the above post. Like I said we don't necessarily have to change anything it is just an idea. And I am the spelling champ. I'm flat out terrible at it. thank god for spell check
