Have you spoken to the dealer already? If so, how much are they willing to give you on the trade in?

Wow. Honestly, if they're willing to give you that much on a trade, I'd take advantage of it right away. That's really good from a dealer for a 12 yr old Pontiac.

For $4500 I would jump on it, especially being a trade.

Yea you will get a tax credit by trading it in. So if someone on here wants to buy it you will need at least 4950 to offset the tax credit

Sometimes dealers will offer more on the trade if they are making good money on the sale of the new car.. so you might be paying to much on the new car..

Exactly what I was thinking Andre, but didn't want to get into initially. The car is not worth anywhere near $4500 on trade in considering their ASKING price isn't going to be any greater than $7k MAX. The $2k the other dealer offered is a more realistic number. The only reason other dealers have SAID $4k+ is because it is common practice for car salesman to con people into thinking they're getting a great deal by manipulating the main "foursquare" figures (among other numbers): purchase price, down payment, monthly payments, trade-in value. By playing around with one or more of those numbers, they can make it look like you're getting what you want on your trade in. The bottom line is you're actually still only getting $2k - $3k. That's why you NEVER tell them you want to trade in a car till the very, very end, as in you've come to a deal you like on the new car, and are about to sign the paperwork, but before you do, you throw the "....actually, I change my mind. I DO have a trade in" at them. THEN see how low the price they offer you on your car is. That's what you're ACTUALLY getting for it, not the inflated figure they give you while you're trying to hammer out a deal.
