So my '01 GTP Special Edition with 185k miles spun a bearing after the LIM gasket went on it (discovered this after the fact). I bought a replacement '00 GTP about 2 1/2 months ago, and the '01 has been sitting in my apartment parking lot ever since. I've started it a couple times since, so she still runs (the rod knock is even pretty quiet/almost non-audible at idle), but I don't think I'd take any chances driving it anywhere, especially with all the coolant that dumped into the block. I don't know how much longer she'll go.

I need to strip some parts off of it before I haul it away, like the SE hood, spoiler w/trunklid, roof rails, 2-tone seats & door panels/grey center console & dash trim, newer starter & Interstate battery, window regulators for spares, etc. The problem is, living in an apartment complex, I don't exactly have an extensive collection of tools, nor can I do serious work on the car there, not to mention I certainly can't strip the car and leave the remains there without management having it towed almost immediately. I need some kind of game plan on what I'm going to do with the rest of the car immediately after taking what I want off of it, or find another place to do this all at.

SO.....I would like to gauge interest in a couple of possible scenarios. For example:

    • If someone is interested in the rest of the car for parts for say like $300 or so, we can arrange a day where I can snag what I need off of it, and the buyer can pick up the car immediately afterwards. You can get pretty close to, if not all your money back from a junkyard or metal scrapper after you take what you need off of it.
    • If someone has the room and the means, we haul the rest of the car to your place. Afterwards, if you're willing to remove a couple newer mechanical parts off for me (namely, the starter and possibly the CPS), you can keep the rest of the motor and trans (for parts, or rebuilding, etc), and/or any other parts you need for free. All I'd ask if you're willing and able is to haul the remainder to the junkyard or metal scrapper afterwards so I can at least get some cash for the carcass.
    • If someone is interested in picking up the whole thing as a parts car, including all the Special Edition stuff, I'd take say maybe $1100? I know that's a bit high for a parts car, but if you're familiar with them, you know what the SE specific appearance parts are worth. Since they're not pristine (eg. clear coat peel/paint fade, rough driver's seat, etc), I added up some pretty conservative prices for the SE parts + a lowball number for scrap to come up with that figure, basically making the motor, trans, and all other miscellaneous parts a bonus. If you're looking to strip it to resell parts for a profit, then obviously this isn't the deal for you. I'd just part it out myself to try to get as much as I can out of the car. I'm pricing it to make it a decent deal for someone looking to get a bunch of SE parts at once + some extras at a slight hit vs. selling everything separately in order to save me time (which I'm very limited on).

This is a unique situation, so I'm also open to any other suggestions someone might have. I'd like to get moving on this because the plate sticker expires at the end of this month (management will tow away for that as well). I'll try to get some pics up as soon as I can, but for some preliminary info, the car came with every option but the Bose system. It was, and always has been bone stock. The rocker panels are rusted to hell (driver's side has completely disintegrated), most of the body panels are dented and/or rusty after 2 accidents (rear left door was replaced, and is in good shape), and the clear coat is peeling/paint is fading on the spoiler and rear bumper cover. Struts and springs are toast (rear springs broke), but it does have low mileage control arms (stock), outer tie rods and front wheel bearings. One front axle is a ZZP stage II, and the other is a NAPA replacement (since the ZZP one blew up). The interior is in pretty nice shape minus the driver's seat leather. I'm sure I'll think of more later on.

Here's some quick pics I snapped when I got home from work yesterday before I had to run back out for some errands. Excuse the dust, dirt and debris on the car. As I said, it's been sitting around a bit (under trees, no less). On the picture of the hood vents, I circled a small cut in the left side vent in red. Should be fixable.

*Car is located in a SW suburb of Chicago, Naperville*

Whoa, guys. As I mentioned in the original post, I can't part it out yet until I have a game plan in place for what I'm going to do with the remainder of the car after I strip everything I want to keep/sell off of it. I live in an apartment complex, so I can't have the remainder sitting there without getting towed rather quickly.

Chris - I actually have several sets of the '01 - '03 SWCs in really nice condition. I'll PM you about that later.
