2002 SE. 180,000 miles. Has been losing coolant for a while.
Now I know where it's been going.
Oil has antifreeze in it and oil filler cap has a cheese-looking residue on it.

So I know I need to replace the intake gaskets, but my question is this:
Should I go ahead and replace the head gaskets while I've got it apart?
What are the chances that they need replacing?
Is there a way to tell, or should I just do it?

This kit seems to have everything I'd need:

I don't have much experience with the 3.1 but I know of the common intake gasket issues, and or head gasket problems.

It wouldnt hurt to just go ahead and do the HG's and get the heads checks while your at it.

Lost the HG's on my 3.1 @ 120k... It's common with those engines. Fix it though, as they're just as good/hardy as the 3800's... There's over 200k on it now, runs great!

I just did the intake gaskets on my aunts corsica, I also did the HG's while I was there. You just have to remove the pushrods to get the intake gaskets out.

Intakes are super common on 3.1's. HG's are a lot less common. 3.4's supposedly like to eat HG's.

I would do a compression test and find a bad cylinder before doing HG's automatically.,
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
