    Hey guys, I have a 1998 Grand Prix GTP. Basically, it seems like the crank shaft position sensor is out. But, I changed that and I'm still having the same issues. Code still is reading "P0336" which the CPS. The car is stalling after 15-30 minutes of driving, TCS light always on, Tachometer drops to 0 rpms while driving, after which, car starts to act like it's going to die (need to give gas to keep running). I've noticed a drop in performance also. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem might be? There aren't any other codes popping up. I'm at a loss and I'm coming here before I take it to a shop to get an $85 diagnostic. Possibly the wiring to or from the CPS? I made sure that the end going into the sensor itself isn't dirty but there sure is a lot of grease and build up down there. I don't know too much about cars but maybe the grease and build up isn't good? Any information is helpful... thanks.

    Check your wiring down there

    you may want to try changing that harness. and check the icm harness as well, they run off each other. look for cracks or missing insulation. or where it may have hit a belt and got damaged.

    did you try a CASE Learn?

    P0336

    Description
    18X REFERENCE SIGNAL CIRCUIT


    Ignition Control Module (ICM) produces 18X reference signal.
    ICM calculates 18X reference signal by filtering Crankshaft Position
    (CKP) sensor 18X pulses when engine is running and CKP pulses are also
    being received. PCM uses this information to calculate engine speed
    and CKP at engine speeds less than 1200 RPM. PCM compares number of
    18X reference pulses to 3X reference pulses and Camshaft Position
    (CMP) pulses. If PCM receives incorrect number of pulses, DTC P0336
    will set.

    Symptoms
    Engine may not start.

    Causes

    • Ratio of 18X reference pulses to 3X reference pulses received
      by PCM does not equal 6.
    • Ratio of 3X reference pulses to CMP pulses received by
      PCM equals 6.

    Possible Solutions

    • Check for faulty connections at ICM.
    • Check for broken/frayed wires leading to the ICM
    • Start engine and check tachometer, if reading zero, check tach wire.
    • Replace ICM.
    • Check for incorrect harness routing near secondary
      ignition components, ignition coil arcing to wiring harness or ICM.
      Check ignition coils for cracks, carbon tracking or other signs of
      damage.

    I have not tried a relearn yet. I got fed up with it and left it with the guys at Keizer Automotive. There is a big oil leak I discovered while installing the CPS and Cam sensor. Hopefully they don't tell me the engine is shot... I'll keep updating... thanks guys.

    those pressure sensor go bad all the time. its right past the oil filter, if the pug is wet with oil, theres your leak. if its wet, change it asap, as they leak a little, then just dump oil at a fast rate. they run about 12 bucks at most parts stores.

    Yeah and don't tighten them too much when you screw the OPS back in!! I should know...

    No, I didn't break the sensor. When I pulled it out there was oil all the way in the plug. I cleaned it out pretty well and installed the new sensor. I have a pic of the sensor and the spot where the sensor is installed showing the oil everywhere. But, for some reason, I can't upload it directly off my phone and I don't have my laptop with me. I'll upload pics later on..

    talking about this guy^^^^^^^ iirc i told him to just make the sensor snug, as it has tapered threads, and well he went to far...

    ive been through 3 of them sensors, keep a eye on it. i now have a brass plug in the sensor hole. im done changing it for now. it will be replaced with a oil pressure gauge.

    I snugged it up & it leaked, went a touch further for a little more snug & leaked, eventually a little more snug became too loose. Had to replace the oil filter housing as she was stripped.

    Well, I failed at uploading the photos. Anyway, how does one go about a relearn? I can't really take it to the dealership. So should I find a shop that can do it? How much do the diagnostic tools cost that can do the job? Although, I'm not too sure if this will fix the problem. I guess trying the different things couldn't hurt though.

    Alright, after about $500, it's fixed. Turns out, it was the ignition control module. Thanks for the help guys.
