yeah, could even buy the alum ones, and if an oring goes, then just buy a cheap set of plastic ones, scavange the ring, and reinstall.
Saturday when brandon's front elbow blew, it exploded in the middle AND both ends were busted.. plastic FTL

Brandon FTL. His elbow was becoming a 45 degree angle and he didn't pay attention.
he used CRISCO to install them.. not RTV or grease... CRISCO
I use vasoline or oil Oil when my toolbox is further than 5 feet from the car, because if there's no oil on the dipstick to use...well..you likely don't need it anyway.
Crisco ... why the heck did he have Crisco handy..... wait..I reconsidered and don't want to know the answer.
Lots of online retailers are starting to lower prices & kill you on shipping so they seem to be the better deal initially. How many times to people price check shipping rates? Not as much as people price check the actual product.
buy multiple sets, do group buys etc shipping only goes up a few $
I beat down my local Advance guys and they discount no matter. shipping...who pays shipping?
ORDERED! I couldn't get my Visa out fast enough!!!
Before you place your order I suggest you buy a couple bags of GM o rings from rock auto as well.
The larger O ring is pricey, but hey, you guys plan on driving these things forever right?
Just got off the phone with Oreillys, they cost 11.99 direct factory order + 6.63 freight 3-5 work days. Rock auto probably has them in stock but in this case to each his own.:th_scratchhead:

The worst part is when you get the package and the label has the shipping price that's half of what they charged you.
Most of the time I order from amazon.com, I'm a prime member and get free 2 day shipping on most things. They don't have the aluminum elbows on amazon :(
Freakin' crap. I just put fresh plastics in. Better late than never, I guess. Good find, homeslice.
Here's how this went. Last time I replaced em, I didn't have oil. So I was like well I'll go find vaseline in the bathroom. Well there was none there. So then I walked in the kitchen, there was crisco, I was like meh that'll make it slide in.
Bam!
I must get some of these alummys though
Additionally I'm confused why it's $10 to ship these little bitty ole light weight coolant elbows to my house.. that's a rip off
But yknow..I'd still pay under $20 to have my stuff never leak again.
Ill be ordering these eventually, after 10k my top one seeps a tiny bit.
There was a thread, I can't remember where, that Dorman had some troubles with their plastic coolant elbows. They put out a revision of the plastic ones to try and fix the issues. To see if you have or were buying the newer ones, you have to check the number on the elbow itself. I assume they just decided to start making them out of metal now to save the trouble or to provide another option.
Search on my name and dorman and you'll likely find that thread...or have too many results for the search engine. I posted about it.
On these elbows...you guys do realize these aren't the solution to all of our problems. They still have o-rings to leak and have issues. Which BTW I replace from a little Harbor Freight $5 ring kit I picked up way back when. Those rings work just fine.
If the pressure in the system gets too high, these can still blow out or might damage something else. We really don't know what will happen. I'm game though and will be ordering a set soon enough. Likely they'll go on the shelf and into a customers car.
